Land Speed & Drag - "Surrogate Finals"!

First class to the line was -


After a few shake down runs, tire cleaning etc, the fleet of high speed fliers were put through their paces!
When the dust settled - the field shook out as follows...




While this class is all about their speed, we went ahead and matched them up in regular elimination order for the "official" runs.
Round 1 was BTaylor's All Wheel Drive #5 vs TuscoTodd's #24



BTaylor's Fast Times #5 jumped off the line in a flash - but the added running gear kept this smooth running machine's top speed a bit repressed - allowing the TuscoTodd #24 Tabasco car to zip through the traps on the big end with the higher top speed.




Round 2 had BTaylor's #461 in a "BYE" run



The #461 Dunbar Welding machine made a STRONG run - besting both of it's qualifying runs!




Round 3 had Retro Racer 44's #44 lined up against BTaylor's #560



The BTaylor - Paul's Speed Shop machine also pulled off a stronger run in the eliminations than in qualifying - but the Retro Racer 44 Retro Speed Shop #44 was picking them up and laying them down - getting a jump off the line and carrying it all the way through the traps at the big end!




Round 4 had TuscoTodd's #24 up against BTaylor's #461



It was the BTaylor Dunbar Welding #461 that was quicker out of the hole - knocking down a clean smooth pass - but TuscoTodd's #24 Tabasco car ran it down at half track on it's way to claiming th honors of the higher speed run.




Round 5 had Retro Racer 44's #44 machine in a "BYE" run.



It was another clean smooth run by the Retro Speed Shop #44 car!




FINALS!
The final round pitted Retro Racer 44's "Retro Speed Shop" #44 machine against TuscoTodd's #24 "Tabasco" car



The Retro Speed Shop car hooked up and ran another consistent 25.3mph pass - but it wasn't enough to keep the Tabasco car in it's dust as it laid down some serious heat in this round - tripping the lights at 28.6mph(!) - the fastest of any of the runs! :o




After all the dust settled - here is how the cars were ranked - based on their best runs in either qualifying or the elimination portion. Great field of smooth running cars guys!

Those Studeys with their Moon disks sure look the part, and fit right in with the streamliners. Just like Bonneville, eh?

[Retro Racer 44]

Two seconds in class! I'll take it. Well done Todd for getting this done. Too bad the other strip didn't materialize, but they had a good run when they did. It was a fun proxy and I think two dragsters will become shelf queens when they get home. If I plunder their parts, I'll replace them with others so they remain complete.

Who know, we may even do this again.

The builds were great and a LOT of fun to run - I hope everyone enjoyed the coverage! :D

I am definitely planning a Land Speed & Drag 2016, based on requests, I plan to do some minor tweaks with a couple of the rules/classes (but there is nothing run with this first one that won't be able to be run with the next one!)

In addition to this Gameover and I have been having some discussion about an additional class that should make for some good entertainment as well!
