Those concourse winners all look great! And the photos..............maybe we should call him "superfotodoug"; just gorgeous. I'm not sure that there will ever be a car for me that's more attractive than the Ferrari 330/P4. Is that built up from the Scalextric car?

Truly a fantastic field of cars, nicely laid out on the Burnaby Grind. Pleasantly surprised to be sharing a step on the concours podium with Chris' 908/3, superbly photographed by PhotoDoug.

We anxiously await the first race results which, if past practice is an indicator, may be posted early Tuesday morning (EST). As has been mentioned, the qualifying times are tightly bunched at the top, sometimes with 0.01 sec separating placement. This has the makings of a very exciting proxy. Thanks to Keith and the GVSCC for generating the idea and doing all the leg work necessary to get the proxy going. Have fun!

The first GVSCC Targa Florio is in the books, and the racing was as close as it gets. Usually the cars were on the same lap at the end of each heat, and often on the same straightaway or turn.

We had a good crew out to help with the race, and with two separate classes we were able to spell off some drivers. Drivers were Dan, Doug, Mike and Perry. We ran a little long on time, so we ran the last six heats at the intermission in our usual Monday evening club racing. Other club members who have not been involved with proxies got a first hand view and also helped with marshalling.

Luf took video, both regular time and slomo, and will edit it up and post it in a day or two. I took some line-up shots that I will post probably tomorrow.

Anyway, rather than babble on, here are the results. Three minute on each lane for a total laps in nine minutes.

# Entrant Total Laps

48 Bob Goulet 64.25
17 Doug Johnson 63.5

Attached is the pdf of the Targa Proxy Leaderboard. Each entrant receives the same number of points as their finishing position, sand the one with the lowest total overall is the series winner, just like golf, eh?

Wow! Talk about close racing. After nine minutes of competition, less than one lap separates the top two cars in class A, and the top four are less than two laps apart. It appears to be the same close racing in Class B, even tighter at the top. Throughout the field close racing for position is the norm.

Many thanks to Keith and everyone at GVSCC for putting on an exciting event that showcases some of the most beautiful tracks from any region. :text-thankyouyellow: :text-thankyouyellow: :text-thankyouyellow:

Thanks to everyone involved in running this round.
Congrats to the podium finishers in each class.

I'm surprised my car performed so well.( has to be the talented drivers )

The car was a handful on my track.

Looking forward to the next round.

I thought it might be interesting to compare the best average lap speeds of the top cars in each class. I did not record the best lap times, as I was busy enough just getting the laps down, but I took the best lane totals and did the math to get an average over those laps.

In Class A, the best average lap time was 8.3 seconds done by Bob's #48. This is an excellent speed to average over three minutes and 21.65 laps. Second was Stewart's #148 at 8.33, then Doug's #17 at 8.37, and my #87 and Dale's #3T tied at 8.57. All exceptional speeds for cars powered by small RPM motors.

In Class B, the best average lap time was 7.39 done by Chris's #20. Second was Steve's #85 at 7.69. Followed by Luf's #24L at 7.7 and Dan's #16 at 7.89. Remember that these averages are only for the best heats, and the cars that maintained high numbers consistently on all three lanes finished ahead of the ones that rocketed on one lane and not on the others.

In any regard, the cars performed well for the most part. As with qualifying, there were a few that were gear ratio challenged, a few with traction challenges, and a couple lightweights that were prone to rolling off if pushed, but this is true of any proxy series. It will be interesting to see how the Burnaby Grind Hillclimb shakes up the order. From previous experience, often the slower cars on the Targa score better on the hill, and some of the fast ones have trouble. That event is planned for Friday afternoon.

Cheers,

Keith

Luf spent most of yesterday editing and uploading the video of the Targa race. He did it in slow motion to give people a chance to see how the cars really perform. Bear in mind that almost all slot cars swing a bit wide on turns, but some lose time by swinging too much as you can see.

Thanks to Luf for his efforts.

It seems I missed filming a few of the cars. I'll do them when we run the track in the other direction

What a beautiful and challenging course Luf's Targa is! The video really captures how intricate and difficult it must be to drive it quickly. Thanks very much, Luf, for filming so much of the run and taking the time to edit it. GVSCC is fortunate to have such a jewel of a track on which they can compete.

A big thank you to Dan Pang for driving the cars on the Burnaby Grind. It was an interesting couple of hours with thrills and spills, cars bouncing off the rock walls, and very close times between contestants.

Often on this hill climb the slower cars show their stuff and outshine the faster ones, but that was not to be the case today.

We had a couple of mechanical issues again today. A popped out axle bearing, a slipping set screw on a crown gear, several cars that might have done better with shorter or shallower guides, and one that has a very long deep guide that stopped dead on the first tight turn. Those repairs that could be made were completed and the runs were done. I will consult with the owner of car 73 to make sure it is ok to repair or replace the guide. So for Class A, the results are unofficial until #73's runs are completed.
