P-BOP A Parts Box Open Proxy Idea

Sounds like my idea should float! I will set out an official set of rules, very short, and set up a registration page. Since we are looking for a September or October start to this, we are not in a rush. Lots of time to decide what body to use. I have two in the parts box. I think I will build up both and then decide which will be best. Hmm, should I build that 34 Ford with or without fenders?

I like it! Looking forward to the "official sign up" thread being started as I think this will be a lot of fun and let me use up some old parts and try out an idea or two for the chassis. :) (really like your combo of pod and brass - definitely a cool approach!)

'34 Ford Update

So I took the hot rod shown above to the track tonight, and I was very pleased with its performance. I had it down into the 8's. The track record is slightly over 7.0. I can get my fastest NSR into the high 7s, but for a stock Scaley powered car, I would not expect more than about 8.5.

P-BOP Update

I am planning to post the rules and set up a sign-up thread soon, but first I will need someone, or two, to act as the start and end for this proxy. Because of Canada Post and USPS international rates, it makes the best sense to start and end the proxy in the US, where I assume most of the entrants live. One parcel crossing the boarder is much cheaper than all the separate ones. We will need someone to collect and tech the cars at the first track, and someone to disperse the cars to their owners at the end. Teching the cars will basically be making sure they survived the postal system.

Volunteers anyone?

We can set it up so international cars pay $5 more to cover postage. Several of our club members have US post boxes, so we may be able to expedite the border crossings that way.

So here are the tentative rules and registration page for the Parts-Box Open Proxy. Changes or suggestion are welcomed. Mods may want to move this to the front page, or first post.

Parts-Box Open Proxy

General Rules-

1. This is intended to be a fun proxy with few rules and limited expense.
2. See rule #1.

Cars-

1. In keeping with the parts box idea, the car must be a pre 1948 1/32 scale model done in either plastic or resin. No clear or blow molded bodies. Cars sold as 1/32 but slightly out of scale will be allowed.
2. It is hoped that cars will be of the hot rod or jalopy styles, as such cars were often built from the parts-box.
3. Maximum width will be 2.5 inches. There is no maximum length. Car should be able to pass under normal height overpass bridges.
4. There are no minimum or maximum weight guidelines.
5. A 3/32 axle should be able to pass under the car, with the exception of a spur gear.
6. Any motor or motor set-up and gears will be allowed.
7. Any wheels are allowed, but tires should be either rubber or urethane, no silicone tires. Tires do not need to be covered by the body.
8. Car should have a driver figure, but does not require window glass. The chassis should not be visible through the windows.
9. All cars will race in the one open class.

Tracks and Schedule-

1. This proxy will be run on whatever type of tracks are volunteered; oval or road course, wood or plastic.
2. Schedule will be posted once hosts volunteer.
3. You can host more than one race if you own or have access to more than one track.
4. You do not have to host a round to join this proxy.
5. You do not have to enter a car to host a round, but it would be more fun if you do.
6. It is hoped that this proxy will begin around the first of October 2014. The end will depend on the number of races volunteered.
7. Host will be responsible for getting the cars to the next venue.

1. A registration fee of $15 USD for all participants to cover car return costs. Since any participants not hosting do not have to pay to ship the cars, they will pay a $5 shipping surcharge. Any registration fees not spent will be donated to Home Racing World.
2. When particants post their registration, I will PM my Paypal info.

I will list the participants and build the race schedule just above, so post or PM me when you have decided to join the P-BOP fun.

So the proxy will start in California and cars need to be at Dave's by October the first, so mailed by September 15th if you are outside the US, and by Sept 24th if you live in the US. We will figure out the rest of the schedule depending on who offers to host.

Keith - count me in! I have a number of old partial Linberg and Pyro model kits that will make for a good source of a body... now just need to see what I have in the way of other bits to go with it! This is going to be fun!!!!
