Thanks - I did not mean to hijack the thread, but I am rather proud of the support and involvement I get from my wife!

She helped with the scenery on my first track and with the construction of my wood track, too.

The second last race of the GVSCC Targa Florio Proxy was held today, and a good time was had by all. Doug (fotodoug), Luf (oldslotracer) Dan (vtecfour) and I met in Doug's slot car cave to race the Dougtona. It is a three lane track with several folded corners connected with fairly long straights. It is just over 80 feet long for one lap length, and quite fast. Because Doug's place is in Kitsilano, almost the opposite end of Greater Vancouver than where I live, and because Vancouver's rush hour traffic can be a nightmare, we met about 11am at Doug's.

We ran the Class A races and then took a break for a couple of great pizzas, and finished by 2pm with the class Bs. I got home around 4pm.

We had good racing with a few upsets happening but no mechanicals to slow things down. For the sake of time, we ran 2 minute heats, so each car got 6 minutes of run time. Dan, Luf and I did the driving, and Doug took video which will be posted later.

I just watched the entire video. There's more fun packed into Doug's converted garage than other hobbyists can fit in an auditorium! Here's a well deserved "Thank you" to the four guys who ran the Dougtona racing. I'm new to proxy racing, but this must be one of the better organized and efficiently run proxies around. It's a perfect vehicle to showcase the excellent venues in the Greater Vancouver area.

Many of the top positions have been established now. My Porsche 908/3 seems to have no weaknesses. I'll have my finger's crossed for the final event Sunday. Keith's Ferrari took second away from Doug's Porsche 917 on Doug's home track and, in doing so, solidified his hold on the third podium position. Adrienne's Chaparral appeared to have a shot at the podium but she needed Keith to falter to overtake him.

The race for the top in Group B between Chris' Porsche and Luf's Ferrari is superb. The video beginning at 20:14 captures the spirit of this matchup. These cars handle so well that they appear to be using magnets! Two points separate these top two cars in Group B. The race for #1 will be decided on Luf's Targa, perhaps a fitting end to a fine series.

Steve's Ferrari and Andy's Porsche are in the closest battle for the third podium position, with only one point separating the two. While these are the top positions, there is close racing for position throughout the ranks.

Thanks again to GVSCC for an exciting proxy, and a special commendation to Luf for all the time spent taking and editing the video. It's great to see these cars in action. Your efforts are well appreciated.

That first clip has Chris Walker's (Are you accusing me of magnets!), followed by Andy White's 908/3s rubbering in Luf's curves.

The second clip might have Allan's Alfa 33 getting loose in the middle lane. It's difficult to see the Alfa's number. The complete video demonstrated that the heat was re-started after that crash.

No, I believe that's the #33 Alfa; the two white roundels on the tail differentiate it from the #34 (thankfully, in this case..............). ;)

Actually, looking back on my results sheet, I conclude the flying Alfa is car #12 belonging to Barbs Hills from the Isle of Man, UK. Imagine, those two mean guys picking on the woman like that. Haha!

Yes we did restart the heat.

Although there may be a mirror or two missing and I have someone's windshield wiper blade, I am pleased to report that no car has found the floor, so far. With all those little plastic drivers trying to give it their last hurrah, who knows what might happen in the final round on the Targa, eh?

Can you feel the excitement building?

I have reset the starting order to coincide with the leaderboard, so the cars racing on the track will be the same ones competing for places on the board.
