Fumey, that is sad to see, I wouldnt let that scare me off Proxies as much as the US mail. Sorry to see your 312 so thin.

Fumey is a veteran proxy car racer; I don't think this will scare him off. Having said that, I have never seen a box so thoroughly destroyed by the USPS. Really a shame and saddening to see that. I usually send my cars in the plastic box that they originally came in, for extra strength. But, in this case and with that much damage, I don't think it would have mattered.

If it was insured then make em pay the price. I know it wont fix the car since we all put so much of ourselves into these builds.
But hit em in the pocket book.

I've checked the Canada Post website to determine the correct process for this. As the sender, I make the claim and I still have all my receipts, and have identified the correct one. It was insured for $100 CAD which unfortunately is only $70 USD, but still enough to replace the car at US prices.

I prepared a print-out to take back to the PO that shows both of the pictures posted above, and don't expect any problems. I will go back to my favourite postal clerk at my local PO. She was very interested in the whole proxy racing process, and was very helpful to me when I posted all the boxes.

The PO should be open tomorrow, but I don't know how long it takes to process the claim.

Yeah Allan, you're right, I'm not gonna stop sending my toy cars out to people in far away places to play with. It's too addicting. I was just a little "crushed" when I made that "no more proxies" comment. I'm better now. On bright side, the headlight lenses and the pinion are okay, so I have something to rebuild off of.
Keith, thanks for organizing this proxy, this was a really good one, and I plan to be back with some urethanes next time!

That's good, and I am planning a urethane only proxy next round so it will be even closer results. The most challenged cars in the last round had something other than urethane tires. At least I think this was the case.

Hi Dave:

I set up the process for getting back the insurance from the post office. My local PO told me I needed to go to the regional PO and they said I had to either phone it in, or do it online. Anyway, I did it online and the wheels are in motion. Once they have verified the facts, they will supply a cheque for $100 + $15.84 postage. This is unfortunately in Canadian Dollars which are currently worth only 70 cents USD, so we will see about $80 USD in the end. The process can take from a week to two months, so don't hold your breath. Like anything, it takes one minute to give them your money, but two months to get it back.

So I've been cleaning up my shop and found something I want to get rid of (I'm finding a few things - but this is specific to this thread!!)....

I have 3 ~ Fly 908/3 - 3D chassis that are just like the ones Bob used to win his class in this proxy..... I don't sell them at the moment on Shapeways and they are going through a revamp in design.... so these 3 are of no use to me.

So..... The first 3 people that send a $10/minimum donation to Harry for HRW through paypal and then reply to this thread something like "donation sent" - I'll send you one - Just PM me your address after that post..... I'll be confirming the donations with Harry - so don't try any tomfoolery ! I'd rather do one chassis per person...... So $10/$20/$30 donation just gets you one chassis.....

If nobody wants them - I'll donate the money to HRW and throw them out!
