I have my car ready to go for the 'P" class......"this guy builds fast" you say.....well, this was done a year or so ago, and has been sitting in the shop waiting for a place to play.

No such luck with the "B" car......a body to be found, and chassis to be built

I didn't see this mentioned so I will ask. All cars in either class are to be no-magnets (other than the ones in the motor)? I might just prepare either a Lola T-70 or a Chappy 2E.

I was sure I made a post to say what I would be entering, but I can't find it so here it is again.

My two cars will both be #65 but in different classes.

The P class will be a Chaparral 2C with a Slot.it HRS sidewinder chassis.
The B class will be a Chaparral 2E with a brass and piano wire sidewinder chassis.

Both will run Piranha motors.

This proxy has me all tingling!! :D , , so I have feverishly been looking for a suitable body for my "B" class car, and, it appears I have found it.

I happened to have a couple of Aurora McLaren M12's that were produced by Aurora in late 1969, and while the original chassis' were rather hideous, the bodies were rather nice.
These were the cars that McLaren developed in 1968 for the 1969 season, and were offered as "customer" cars, (Team McLaren did not race the M12), with Chaparral (driven by J. Surtees) being the most noteworthy customer.

As they were developed in 1968, and since sidewinders/anglewinders were not really prominent until late 1968, I have decided to built this in an inline configuration.......not ultimately as quick as the other options, but, there is something to be said for "period correct".....and I have a hankering to build a "beefy" motored inline.

I will likely use the white one.....(the orange one is absolutely mint!), and do it in the Surtees #7 livery......with the mandatory addition of the real cars' honking big black injector stacks!!

Chris,

Just kidding mostly about the M12 wing!

That Schkee was a cool car, I know Betta has a vacfrom of it, I used it often back in the day. It is of course from the later single-seater CanAm formula, which itself would be a nice subject for a Proxy except for the total lack of non-vacformed bodies.

Come to think of it, that would be a real nice series for someone to make slotcars of. Lots of cool shapes and mostly flat sides and flat rear decks to hide motors!

Dennis: Has anyone ever tried pouring a thin coat of resin inside a clear body? It could make it legal, eh? It might not work with a closed body, but could work with an open cockpit. It would make all the clear bodies available to us for proxies.

Yes, you can pour resin inside a lexan body. Before Slot.It was around, I wanted a Toyota Eagle GTP car in 1/32 (10 years ago). So I had a lexan body (maybe a Classic, I don't recall) and put a thin slush coat inside. You have to do a couple pours as I recall.....maybe 3. Left side, right side, and center section to let them all set enough. It came out OK.....I have it still sitting around somewhere if you want pics. The biggest issue is having a lexan body with the right shape and enough detail to make it reasonable.

In summary....yes, it can be done with a little bit of patience.
