Hmmm - not sure how "abrasive" the material is that is being used for scuffing is... (I hope nobody has/is planning on using 80 grit ;) ) - but this does bring up an interesting point.
Being fairly new to the whole proxy scenario, I didn't account for potential "sanding"/tire OD reduction in my chassis design. (For our racing at the commercial track - you are only allowed to lightly true, not reduce diameter, so once the tires are true, everyone tapes only to keep their tires "acceptable" under the class rules - so I never even thought about this potential)
Maybe those that have been hosting thus far can give some insight if there is actual material removal going on with the "scuffing" steps, or if something like non-scratching white scotch brite pads, etc that only "clean" the tires surfaces are being used? :)
If there is an appreciable amount of material removal going on (IE - notably abrasive sandpaper being used), I'm not sure between that and normal racing wear, that some of the cars (mine being one of them) won't run into a clearance issue before the end of the 12 to 13 races?
