Bob: I must have too many proxies swirling around in my head. I even posted to that thread, but couldn't find it, or forgot it was there.
I have one question, however. Pre 1970, the rules were quite open for Indy cars. Drivers could race anything from Offies and Novis, right through DOHC Ford V-8s, Cummins Diesel to Pratt and Whitney turbines. Hence my question, why are we limiting the motors to a slim can @ 18K? There is a very limited selection of these, by the way, as BWA and M/Ts are under 15K and Scaley, Fly, Scaleauto and MRRC are all over 18K. I realize the aim is to prepare equal cars, but this was not the practice at Indy in the pre 70s.
This is your proxy and of course I will still enter under the rules, but I think we should open up the motor/gear rules and let the chips fall where they may. I have a 27K long can with heaps of torque whose performance would resemble a turbine in my Lotus turbo. An open motor rule allows builders to fit the motor to the car just like the old days, eh? Of course, if you over power a light car, you lose, so it is always a balancing act. A big part of the challenge is getting the best balance between power and handling.
What do others think?
Thanks,
Keith
