Race length: 40 laps

Starting grid:

1) # 7M McLaren M8D - Dave's Dollies
2) # 6C Chevron B19 - TC Lugnuts
3) # 4 McLaren M6A - Oregon Donors
4) # 7L Lola T70 - Downundathunda
5) # 6P Porsche 917/30 - Slothead Racing

Shelby-Hendrix Speedway has 7 sections, 4 of which are wide enough for passing and 3 others are non-passing sections.

Sections [% of lap] (type) : Start straight [12%] (passing), Turn 2 [12%] (no_passing), Turn 3 [14%] (passing), Hairpin turn [10%] (no_passing), Back straight [18%] (passing), Loop turn [22%] (no_passing), and Finish straight [12%] (passing).

In No_passing sections a faster car may pull up behind a slower car but cannot make a pass. No_passing sections are 'first in, first out', with a minimum distance between cars. For example, the Hairpin turn is a no_passing section where cars must go through the turn single file. When a car exits the Hairpin turn section and enters the back straight section if it is fast enough it can make a pass and enter the Loop turn section (no_passing) in front of a car it was behind back in the Hairpin turn section.

During the simulated race, when a car starts a lap it's expected lap time is read in from a file containing recorded lap times for each car. The amount of time it will take to go through a section is a percentage of this lap time. For example, it takes 12% of a car's lap time to get through the Start straight so a car running a 55.3 second lap will take 6.64 seconds to get to the next section, Turn 2. If there is no slower traffic to contend with this car will pass through Turn 2 in another 12% of its lap time, but the car could be held up by slower cars and have a delay added to its actual lap time. Each lap and the entire race for all cars will be completed in this way.

The green flag falls tonight. Vroom Vroom!

A corner view of Shelby-Hendrix Speedway. 58' track on a 6' x 14' table. Simulation length is 1.56 miles (what the program uses).
Image

Yes, I was so eager to try it out that as soon as I got the outer lane taped I connected the power and started racing. Since I'm a solo racer it's not a problem, but I do still intend to get the inside lane going and add scenery. As you can see, I still have huge cut outs in the track & table from when I did the elevations. Not sure how to fill them with realistic scenery so been procrastinating.

Two Ford GT40's in banked turn at end of back straight - 4" lane spacing leaves plenty of room for passing.
Image

Two Chaparral 2F's in the loop turn - 2" lane spacing does not permit passing. Back off and hold your position for now!

Thanks to Harry and the HRW Shadow gallery I can now show my stuff.

The race has been run and while the report still has to written, I can disclose that this was the most competitive and fun race simulation I've done so far.

And, the result was not what I expected.

Solo International Proxy 2019 - Race # 3 race report Friday, April 12, 2019

Shelby-Hendrix Speedway Race length: 40 laps
Race info: Np_delay 0.25, Scalar 3.10, Base 24.5

Starting grid:
1) # 7M McLaren M8D - Dave's Dollies
2) # 6C Chevron B19 - TC Lugnuts
3) # 4 McLaren M6A - Oregon Donors
4) # 7L Lola T70 - Downundathunda
5) # 6P Porsche 917/30 - Slothead Racing
6) # 59 Porsche 917/10 - CAT Racing
7) # 16 Lola T70 - Racing Bandit

The race got off to a fast start with all cars closely grouped but maintaining their positions. But, things heated up on lap 2 when the # 7L Lola of Dowundathunda and the # 6P Porsche of Slothead Racing got by the # 4 of Oregon Donors. Over the next few laps both the # 59 of CAT Racing and the #16 of Racing Bandit also got by the #4 dropping it to 7th place. With the hot shots at the rear of the starting grid moving up the pressure was now on the # 6C Chevron of TC Lugnuts, and the # 7L, # 6P, and # 59 all got by the # 6C by lap 10. The # 6P and # 59 Porsches then ganged up on the #7L Lola, dropping it to 4th as they took over 2nd and 3rd on lap 12.

At this point the race order was: 1] # 7M – Dave’s Dollies, 2] # 6P – Slothead Racing, 3] # 59 – CAT Racing, 4] # 7L – Downundathunda, 5] #6C – TC Lugnuts, 6] # 16 – Racing Bandit, 7] # 4 – Oregon Donors.

The stage was now set for the most interesting part of the race. The leading # 7M Lola of Dave’s Dollies was under attack by a pair of Porsches, and the top qualifier # 16 Lola of Racing Bandit was still mired near the back of the pack. As might be expected, Dave’s Dollies Lola yielded the lead to the Porsche of Slothead Racing on lap 13, but was able to hold off the Porsche of CAT Racing. Then something amazing happened as the # 7M mounted a challenge for the lead and drove back past the # 6P Porsche to retake 1st place on Lap 18. This NEVER happens. Typically, when a car moves through the field and gets to the front it can only be challenged by other cars that started even further back. (Remember, the starting grid is inverted based on qualifying times.)

Finally, on lap 20 the # 16 Lola of Racing Bandit began to move forward, going from 6th to 4th by lap 30. Meanwhile, the # 4 McLaren of Oregon Donors battled its way out of 7th place and moved back up to 4th. The now hard charging # 16 Lola of Racing Bandit caught and passed the # 59 Porsche for 3rd on lap 35, then got by the # 6P Porsche for 2nd on lap 39. With one lap to go the # 16 was only 4/10ths of a second behind the leading # 7M of Dave’s Dollies and closing. But, Dave’s Dollies’ HSRR McLaren would not yield and hung on to win the race!

Finish positions:
1) # 7M McLaren M8D - Dave's Dollies (led 35 of 40 laps)
2) # 16 Lola T70 - Racing Bandit
3) # 59 Porsche 917/10 - CAT Racing
4) # 6P Porsche 917/30 - Slothead Racing (led 5 laps)
5) # 4 McLaren M6A - Oregon Donors
6) # 6C Chevron B19 - TC Lugnuts
7) # 7L Lola T70 - Downundathunda

Holy Crap... :o Simone said she would do this and did it. Also a big thank you goes out to the mechanics who finally managed to put together a decent car that held up for the entire race. :text-bravo: Congrats also to Bandit and Cat for putting Thunda back in it's place. :auto-checkeredflag: :auto-driving: :auto-checkeredflag:

Thanks to everyone involved for this very unique proxy. It inspired me to revamp how I record and process lap data, and put a lot of thought into the simulation itself. Over a week's time I time trialed every car I have that's in a racing series, then compiled around 5,000 laps worth of data. Along the way I fixed issues with cars that had been ignored and got my entire inventory in shape.

Think about that, running 5,000 laps split between the oval and road course, and getting acquainted with each car's characteristics. And not just casual laps, though there were thousands more of those too. The laps I'm referring to were run 'on the clock', meaning every one of them mattered and was run to the best of my and the car's ability. A lot of work? Yes. Tons of fun? You bet!

Congrats to all the teams involved. Dave Dollies' McLaren managed an improbable victory, and the Lola and Porsche of Racing Bandit's and Cat Racing's teams put as much pressure on the leader as you could ask for.

I'm looking forward to the rest of this, and future, solo proxies.

Great reporting!
The T-county boys tried to keep our ride as wide as possible, but there was just no holding back the faster cars in the group!
Thanks again for hosting!

Thanks from the donors. Looks like a considerable effort was put forth.

Based on our somewhat less than stellar finish we're sending Helen to Nepal for a few days to learn about climbing mountains. That stuff may come in handy.

त्यो पर्वतलाई चढाउन दिनुहोस्!

(That's Nepali for "let's climb that mountain!")

On to somewhere else!

Well, the team are disappointed with finishing where their name suggested they should finish, and the red car is faster theory failed miserably.
Unfortunately that's racing and we must move on, there is another round to be run.

thanks to our host for putting it all together, great job. Congrats to the podium getters, well done

The debrief will be interesting, looking forward to round 4
