Racing day draws near, so how about a little status. I've been through the cars, I've given them some shakedown runs just to make sure they all go around the track and here are a few observations:

The Damage Report

JCIS4ME - car was strapped down to a nice plastic plate tight enough that it arrived with the rear axle popped out of both bushings. Had to open the car to snap the axle back into place. Runs fine now.

SHOGUNDRG - the wheels would not turn out of the box. As it turned out, the driver's side mirror had snapped off and lodged itself into the gears. May have ruined the crown trying to turn the wheels, found to be missing two teeth. Replaced with gear of same size/mfg. Runs fine now.

WAYTOOMUCHINTOTHIS - far be it for me to tell anyone how to build a car and I have proxy results to back that up. Nevertheless this is one weird body attachment setup. If I understand this, the rear is held on by Velco and the front by some tape that has failed so that when I lifted the car out of the box by the body (of course) the entire front of the chassis came loose from the car. I pressed it back together. My guess is that when a marshal tries to re-slot the car it could be quite the challenge. Please advise what we do here and if I am off-base on the mount system...

The shakedown seems to show SADCO Racing and Reek455 with the cars to beat here. As always, shakedown pays just what qualifying does, zip. First to worst was within a second.

We'll run the race on Sunday with a plan for two sets of two minute heats per car. We'll use six different drivers, three per set.

Questions, comments, I'll be right here.

It sounds like the velcro on the front mount has released from the body. That's weird, since it was very solidly stuck on. Maybe it was treated to high heat in transit and the glue released. Take a look and see if its that simple. If not, feel free to do whatever you want to it, including taping it on to save time.

Kid Voltage
Did you replace the 3 spacers on the back body mount? If not it WILL slow the car down considerably!
Tire rub :angry-jumpinganger: :angry-jumpinganger:
Also when putting the body back on tighten screws to just touching then back off 1/8 turn so body floats a little, then it should keep up with the others!

I was thinking, and I wonder if we have a communication problem. The car was rolled up in a long piece of bubble wrap. Tell me again how you managed to pull the body off taking it out of the box?

When it was unrolled and picked up by the body the front of the chassis fell loose. We're trying to keep it together. How else can you pick up a slot car?

So it wasn't when it was taken out of the box as you said before, it was after it was out of the box and you unrolled it. That clears up a lot.

We had tremendous fun running the cars today. Monte ran the inside lane, I took the middle and Tracy had the dreaded outside lane. All of the cars were able to navigate Penguin Point without problems and were well suited to the track. The difference between those on the podium and the others was that elusive quality of being able to push a little harder in the tight and grippy corners of the track without causing the car to tip or the rear to slide out. I really enjoyed Sadco and Harry's cars, they just felt really comfortable being pushed to the limit. Monte's wife was able to take a few pictures, hopefully he will be able to get them posted to the forum.

Thanks, Im amazed to see my name up there tied for first. No kidding, last Monday I had to fly to Houston for the week. I had been waiting for my order of PG tires to come in the mail and sure enough they showed up that Monday. I trimmed em so they wouldnt rub, slapped em on, boxed it up and mailed it out west on my way to the airport. Proves again the way I tune and drive that Id rather be lucky that good. Steve

Well, I am surprised to say the least. One of the great things is how close those top 2 are. That makes for some fun racing when it's that close.

Thanks for your hard work holding the event and report.
