Hi Ted, I've gotten all of mine on Ebay. It is just a 1/32 Snaptite model kit. Got to Ebay, then click on hobbies, then models and kits, then automotive and then do a search for 1/32 Camaro. You will mostly find the earlier 68/69ish Camaros but you will also find these and the similar vintage Firebird. I don't buy them unless they are under $10 or $12 US currency with a reasonable shipping cost.

Thanks Mike, after following those instructions I found one. A yellow Supercharged Street Car.

Having seen the original kit, I now see the work that's gone into yours with the fender flares etc.
It looks great. (It would be shame if that fell into the hands of one of our resident, resin gurus ;) )

I thinks that my next project (after the next 3 Trans Ams).

Well my docs have me totally grounded for 6 weeks. The date would be January 17 th. Our club has a 2 hour enduro scheduled for the 18 th. "The one who knows all and is my chauffer" has agreed to let me attend the race.

So I will continue to do many repititions of 50 heartbeats at my own pace and also flexing my trigger finger preparing for this race.

This is one of my all time favorite 1/24 scale commercial track cars from the mid 60s. I have had this project on my bench for a while and hope to complete it over the Christmas break. I have another in nearly perfect shape and its one of the most highly detailed slot cars of the era.

I bought this one missing lots of parts that I plan on making a runner. Strombecker must have wanted to build a very accurate model with little regard for what would break in the first bad crash. Part of the charm. This one will have piano wire rather than plastic suspension.

What a beauty. There were very few outfits that made accurate scale F-1s in those days. I remember the 1/24 Stromys as being the best looking F-1s at my local hobby shop track. Be sure to post pictures for us. It'll be a treat.

Well, here ya go with my second installment. The stromie in front is one of the few shelf queens I own. My new build won't get paint, just polish and clear coat the plastic and it looks pretty original. The open frame motor is nearly equal to the Cox Ferrari, K&B Cooper, Atlas BRM, Monogram Lotus and others on my little track. Need to find some wheel inserts and fashion a front suspension. More to come....

Thanks Harry,
That certainly looks the business, It may be easier to Demodify (is that even a proper word ?) that dirt car to make an Imsa/Iroc type Camaro than to modify the model kit. I will ponder it over Christmas.

They Even look tough in Pink !

I must say that after a bit of research on the Sheer quantity of these types of cars running around the US in the Late '70's that an Imsa/Iroc type model isn't available.
I think I've become a bit spoiled over the last few years due to what's available. Perhaps it's Time for me to do some real modelling work instead of just painting and decaling and hanging onto the coat tails of the gurus. :D

I must say tho' that I've certainly been bitten by the Camaro bug. (My old Dad would be spinning in his grave, the man bled blue, it was all Falcons, customlines and Galaxies for him, I don't think he even owned a GM car, ever. although I do recall a couple of Nash's and an Allard with a Ford V8 of course).

I've even started the search for a 70-73 1:1 version Camaro (Hard to come by in Oz) and nearly got the wife convinced :D. But I do remember swearing to myself that I would never go through the process of rebuilding a 1:1 again.

Sorry about the threadjack everybody. :text-threadjacked:

Ted, If that is the car that you want to build, you are on the right track starting with the plastic kit. It isn't hard to do. All of the fender mods and the spoiler, front and rear, on mine are sheet styrene. The hood bulge is made out of a piece is wood from a paint stirring stick. Looking at that pic, mine isn't too far off if I hadn't have shaved the fender flares so short.

Finally got this Christmas, ok, New Years project completed. My plan was to build a runner grade car from an ebay purchase that was missing key parts. Made rear suspension with piano wire and parts bin shocks. Opted to use original front plastic suspension until it breaks before using more piano wire. One missing front lower suspension member made with piano wire.

Windscreen cut off from a lexan Brabham body. Needs better trimming to seat more closely but it will do for now. Repro decals from ebay. I used to paint bodies like this but now I often just buff and clear coat cars meant as runners. Paul Gage tires in back. Old Revell inserts came from my parts bin too.

The Strombecker open frame motor still runs strong even as its almost fifty years old. A few test laps prove its a stable quick car on my track. We race these old cars gently but they do get raced.
