Low Profile Tires

Peter has been bugging me for these for a while. Just got them in from Kevin at K&D.



The smaller ones fit the WDF15 series to the WDF17 series wheels.
The larger ones fit the WDF18 and WDF19 series wheels.
The widths available are 08, 10, & 13 in both sizes.
They will be listed on the R-D website shortly.

Are they also slightly wider than your TP08, TP10 and TP13 tires or does the lower profile make them look wider?

The tires are the same widths as the TP08, TP10, & TP13 tires.

I like the low profile look. Great addition to your product offering.

I am working on a Porsche 917 LH that will need 15" or 16" wheels with low profile tires to get the ground clearance down to where I want it.

The tires are Polyurethane Shore A 40 - the proven material for good gripping tires on plastic or wood tracks.
Other durometer material has been tried. Softer than 40 and the tires are to flimsy and harder than 40 the tires do not grip as good. I must say, softer than 40 tires grip better but it is next to impossible to keep them on the wheels.

These are much needed for this scale. So many of the "stock" tires are good width but to high a profile.
Will these fit stock Carrera, SCX and DSlot43 wheels? ;)

but these LPTs are really nice for a good alumium rim, like those RD´s ;)

Well Roland, I can say it like that because of the knowledge learned while designing the R-D line of tires. It took me a lot of talking to get my tire maker to pour some test tires made in Shore A 30 and Shore A 20. These tires were placed on wheels that required the tire to be stretched during installation. The '30' tires stayed on the wheels longer than the '20' series mainly due the the lower elasticity - BUT - they still eventually worked off the wheel. No, the tires were not glued onto the wheels since the test was to determine if they would stay on the wheel without the messy glue clean-up required if the tire was removed. Also, the testing was performed using a high performance motor of the time (and still used by a few) known as the GM9330 running at 12 volts. If the tires were tested using a non-high performance motor, the '30' series tires would have passed the test. The '20' series tires may have passed, but they were very flimsy and rolled over easily in turns - not a good thing.

Just for clarification, here's a breakdown of the R-D part numbering system for wheels and tires.

For wheels:
WCF = Wheel, Center Flange
WCFA = Wheel, Center Flange, Artin
WCFS = Wheel, Center Flange, SCX
WDF = Wheel, Double Flange
WDFI = Wheel, Double Flange, Independent Mount (no axle required)
WSF = Wheel, Single Flange
WSFI = Wheel, Single Flange, Independent Mount (no axle required)

The two digits following a three letter or four letter with an "I" number is the 1:1 diameter.
15 = 15" Diameter Wheel
16 = 16" Diameter Wheel
and so on up to 20"
The last digit is the axle size.
8 = .085" Axle Bore
9 = .094" Axle Bore

The digit following a four letter number with "A" or "S" is only an indicator of the body or wheel style. (see the description)
The last digit of a four letter number with "A" or "S" is the axle size.
8 = .085" Axle Bore
9 = .094" Axle Bore

The next two digits in a wheel number indicate the 1:1 width.
08 = 8" wide
10 = 10" wide
13 = 13" wide

For tires:
Here is the breakdown of the letters.
First two letters:
TP = Tire, Polyurethane
TS = Tire, Silicone

Brand Specific Tires:
The next three letters of this series are Brand indicators.
ART = Artin
SCX = SCX Compact

The digit(s) following the five letters is only an indicator of the wheel style (see the description).

Low Profile Tires:
The next two letters of this series are type & fit indicators.
SL = Small Diameter Low Profile Tire (WDF15 to 17 )
LL = Large Diameter Low Profile tire (WDF18 & 19 )

The two digits following a two or four letter tire part number is the tire width.
08 = 8"
10 = 10"
13 = 13"

The additional two digits of any two or four letter tire part number indicate the wheel diameter the tire was made to fit. (TP1020 tires fit WSF2010N wheels)


Custom wheels can be made to the customer's specifications.
