Late Model Mustang Build - Care to join in?

[SLOTTING SINCE 1963]

Rushed out and bought a Dremmel butane torch. Is it any good? I known the drill press is rubbish.
Luckily I haven't opened it so I can return.

I got to get one of those ceramic blocks....What is the hole size, is there a piano wire size that will fit? Or is this why they make tapered pins?
Doing these sprint car frames out of steel wire, be nice to have a magnetic block....

Not sure on the torch, but most do the job. I would give it a try sir.

The ceramic block uses small nails. Works great. The steel plate there is just a hunk like you can buy at Lowe's in the "Metal by the piece" section. Guess you could drill it and make a block for your cars.

Like Harry said , small nails work.
I had a row of small airgun nails from my finishing nailer.
I just broke a bunch off of the row, likely last me a lifetime.
They come in different lengths too.

No such thing as too much solder :) I get heavy handed all the time and I have to clean things up pretty good before I post. If I didn't, you would think the whole chassis was just poured solder :)

Cool.. thanks for the tip on the guides.. I'm not against trying something new, jusrt want it to be reliable~

I'm looking at your tab method on the nova (and this) build.. I'm also looking at a couple large resin blocks
inside this Camaro body and seeing if I can use those to my advantage for mounting.. We'll see :)

One way to strengthen guide posts is to drill the post's mounting screw hole down into the guide's blade with a 3/64" or #56 drill bit. Then superglue a short length of .047 piano wire into the bottom of your just-drilled hole. Be sure the piano wire is short enough not to interfere with your guide mounting screw. Otherwise, you might have to shorten the length of this screw. :)
