Your dream track - What would it be

I would love a slot car replica of the old version of Monza that included the high banked oval. I would build it three or four lanes wide with the turns following the racing line. Once per lap, the cars would enter the oval, race around it and then exit just like the old days or like the movie "Grand Prix".

One question that came to mind on the Riverside slot track was how to marshal the inner turns.

I'd build a scale replica of a real dirt oval. A 1/32 scale mile is (5280/32) 165 feet. A scale 3/8th mile oval would need to be 62 feet around. I thought about building a 1/4 scale mile oval in our attic where there is space for the 9' by 18' table this could fit on, but it's too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer to be practical.

To be like actual dirt tracks I enjoy, the track would need to be wider to accommodate the sweeping turns most tracks have. Check out some aerial photos of tracks and it becomes apparent they aren't paperclips like we can imagine from the stands.

I'd scale the above layout down to 3/8th of a mile in 1/32 scale, and replicate with 3 routed lanes, each following realistic racing grooves drivers use. And, if issues with lane change switches could be resolved I'd make it digital using a system where from 6 - 12 cars could race at the same time with each choosing their desired lane twice a lap, probably at the entrances or exits to turns.

Only thing missing would be a machine to blow dust in your face and engine sound effects like with model railroading so you might want to get ear plugs.

For me it would be a 3 lanes not to big simple track.
Scenery would be a mix of english and american 50´s, 60´s.

For home use I have some pictures of a track called "the Flying Cow" that I think would be a great track to build out of wood.
The problem for me is that you need 20 feet of length & I only have 16 feet.

Oh well maybe someday ... J Y D

Either option are nice looking tracks 2fer, but without scenery they lack something for me.

I agree that raceability still be very important, even for these scenery tracks. My first track (a 2 lanes rally track) was full of scenery, but I have to admit that it was not the most funny track I raced on.

Another thing important, when you want a scenery track based on really race track, is to know that not every real track will be good for slot racing, and also that some real race tracks are best adapted to a specific scale. It can be a good idea to slightly adapt, keeping the "spirit" of the real track, the slot racing track layout too !

My dream track would be Spa. Sprawling, high speed, great scenery through the hills, and 300 feet of elevation change. One of these days I'll get back to finishing it. lol

Maybe thats why i like my Oval so much, Centrifugal force makes the infield scenery last longer! :D

I've had heavily scenic'd tracks for over 10 years with no issues during hard racing.
