Been following this with interest & I'm hesitant to reply, but what the heck!
This thread is about RACING & not running at your home track right??
It's apples & oranges where I'm concerned.
If you race, you should try to win. Winning does not make you a conceited moron.
I'm pretty sure a guy has that personality any way. Wait 'till he loses one & see what
happens. (Especially if it's you what beat him)
I raced 1:1's for 28 years & we would knock each other's wheels off when the
flag flew, but would hang around the track afterwards & empty each other's coolers.
IT WAS ALL FUN (most of the time) Some of these comments remind me of little kids
soccer where they don't keep score. That's fine when your 5 years old, but at what
point do we teach kids to try to excell & try their best. Personaly I want to be the fastest
& the prettiest. The sad fact is......you never will be.....someone is always going to
out-do you. This site is the best example of that. That should only make you do the
next project better. Everyone has to be a beginner sometime. Watch - Do - Learn!
Competition makes us all better at the HOBBY. With the 1:1's I
always wanted to race with the best to learn from the best & make our team better.
I would rather be the small fish in the big pond rather than the big fish in the small pond.
If you don't win YOU'RE NOT A LOSER you're a competitor. I didn't spend near the
money lots of the other guys did, but we still won some races 'cuz we worked a little harder
& were prepared. It's fun to beat 'em with less. Slots are the same way.
TUNE YOUR CAR AT HOME, NOT THE TRACK.
If you put you car in the box 'till next time, I bet you won't be as fast as the last time out.
___Get everything straight, lubricated, trued & clean.
___Race the track, not the other cars.
___Watch the fast guys.
___Run all the laps you can, maybe enter other classes just to get track time.
___Most of all....Ask the fast guys for help. (they will)
___Hang around afterward & "bench race". Amazing what help & info you'll pick up.
Preparation & laps make winners. (not neccessarily money)
Maybe build a "test car" to try some stuff. No loss if it doesn't work.
Innovating isn't cheating. You all see Smokeys quote on here. "They didn't say I couldn't"
..........I know I was responsible for a couple of rule changes in my time......LOL
Remember..........IT'S ALL FUN!!! Hope I didn't offend anybody.
