TGIF - Good & Bad

Postby HomeRacingWorld » Fri Feb 13, 2015 7:29 am

Well, I am heading out in a few to have special "Papaw" duty. My grand daughter's birthday weekend and I get to spend the day with them all. My daughter is testing out today in her Nursing program and I my presence was requested by those who out rank us all. The kids :) Will be a fun day and I am sure too much candy and snacks will occur. I can't wait for my 37th viewing of "Frozen". Anyone want to join me in a chorus of Let it go? :)

Then family is coming in tomorrow for her birthday. Finally on Sunday we head to Springfield for one of the most expensive pizza parties ever held. I can't wait

So this weekend will be a busy one and I will be in and out.

But want to take time to mention how some of our members are not as fortunate. Many of you know Marty (Florida Slotter) and his struggles. There are a few others going through tough times I will not disclose. It is never easy to know folks you care about are going through these hard times. It has bothered me more than I wanted to admit, and if I have been a little grouchy around here...well, no excuses.

Since I cannot mention anyone else, I ask you think about Marty today. Go through his posts and look how much he helps and contributes.

Not just here either. Head over to Slotblog and the other forums.

It's people like him that are the most priceless resources in our hobby. They have all this knowledge and they care enough to share it with us. I might write about a lot of things, but I learn them from guys like him. Anyone who knows me, knows that intelligence is not a natural act for me.

Remember how good we have it today. And that if you have nothing better to do than to complain about a slot car not being perfect, perhaps stop and think about those who wish that is all that they had to worry about.

But I won't end this on a dreary note. Things will get better soon.

New releases are slow this time of year, but that gives us time to BUILD. I enjoy the simple ready to run models too, but building has given me a lot of satisfaction and FUN. It's also a good time to pick up a slot car you might have missed. Old to some...new to others. I will be sharing a little article in that very theme soon.

Have a great weekend folks.

I really enjoy your Friday posts, Harry. You are right on point with this one. Must be the time of our generation that "life" takes on a new perspective. This week I learned that two of my close friends (not slot racers) are dealing with major health issues. I always told may daughter, and now the grandchildren, to be thankful for all they have, including their health. Now, it is somewhat poignant that I am the one to say "thank you" every time I look in the mirror and realize how fortunate I have been with good health and a solid career. Slot cars are such a pleasant diversion from all the world's problems, self-inflicted or not, but I appreciate your acknowledgement that life isn't all play. So, smile at a stranger today, hug someone, and turn a few laps with respect for those who won't have that opportunity. Remember most of the world's bad shite is balanced out by good people doing good stuff. So, today is another chance to make things a little better. I wish everyone bright moments.

Enjoy the weekend Boss.. You'll miss watching Frozen when the kids are grown LOL..
Well, at least you'll miss the time spent watching movies when they are little.. I know I will 8-)

We are getting another foot of snow this weekend ('cause we need that) so I'll get some more building time in..
I'll never be able to keep up with Dave, but I'm making an effort

Thanks for helping us put things in perspective, Harry. I'll put up with a lousy running slot car anyday if it helps those having problems get better....

This weekend I hope to work more on Allan's track. Been a few weekends since I've been able to get back there. But we have another 6-12 inches of snow coming :angry-tappingfoot: so we'll have to see how far we can get...

Glad to hear you're finally spending time with a better class of little people than me. I hope the birthday party is a success and that you are in a cake-induced coma after seeing Frozen yet again. Any truth to the rumor that you look like Elsa once you take the baseball hat off?

Working from home today, some orders to process, still playing with the Corvair, and hope to cover the plaster on the track with a coat of paint to get rid of the blizzard look. We shall see if I am able to do all of that. Oh yeah, little thing called Valentine's Day (Thanks Hallmark! :angry-cussingblack: ) and I'll be taking the fetching Mrs. Reinecke out for a nice dinner. Nothing fancy like Taco Bell, but we'll make do.

As for your comments on folks dealing with issues: I'm finding it harder and harder each year as more of us age and get sick or go through other trials. Marty is an example of a great guy dealing with some tough stuff. I too wish him well and others that may also be going through a rough patch.

I feel truly blessed to have what I have and who I am with. My family is my rock on this crazy planet and I'm thrilled to get to wake up each day knowing them. My daughter is a fantastic young lady and my son is an unbelievable young man. I too have been extremely fortunate to have a great job that provides for us and my heart goes out to those that struggle in that area.

Getting to come to HRW each day to socialize with friends about my favorite hobby is really a privilege and I really do know how lucky I am. As I've said before, take away the little toy cars and I'd still hang out with all of you nuts.

Well said Harry, some great people on here, and it is very hard to hear when one or more of them have any trouble in their lives.
Does Sound like you have a full weekend planned for you! As you know, i have a house full, including small ones, that are in need of a Paw Paw they dont get to see often, so my slot time is rather chopped up, with only stolen moments during nap time (theirs, not mine). Still nice to see them tho! Hope to run some P-BOP Cars this weekend weather permitting, and finish casting and shipping some bodies. and maybe even finish one of the MANY builds i have on the bench! Since i cant keep Shotgun supplied with enough bodies as fast as he builds, I may just have to cut him off till we all catch up!
have a great weekend everyone! three day version for me.

Crisis can remind us just how fortunate we are. It's easy to sit at the desk blocking out the world shrinking oneself down to scale and play race car. And really we are small in the grand scheme of things.
Reminds me of a twilight zone episode I once saw with Robert Duvall. Things just seemed better to him in that museum.
Bless you Marty , and enjoy your family time this weekend Harry. Pizza too.

Turning the big 50 next week has had me thinking a lot about health and family, see I lost my dad when I was 24, he was just 55, now I am getting close to his age and it sure gets you to thinkin

Best hopes for Marty, a great guy for sure

On a lighter side, today I am on vacation,
I could spend the day cleaning house and make the wife a nice dinner when she gets home from work :D
Or play with cars and order a pizza :music-rockout:

what did I do with those pizza coupons

Thanks, Harry; your good thoughts make everyone think about how lucky they are.
As for "Frozen", with my kids it was "Grease" and when the wife and I watched the other night she was amazed I knew all the words :D
I have to work over the weekend so we did the Valentines dinner thing last night.
Haven't been at the bench lately with the back thing and a couple other things but I'll try and get back there over the weekend.
I want to thank everyone for their recent good thoughts during my recent (minor) surgery.
Have a fun weekend, all

You have to wake up every morning and be thankful for the time that you have and be hopeful that your family, friends and neighbors are able to say the same. And if not, pray that they will have the strength to work their way through their troubles. I am hopeful for all of you who are having a hard day today.

I could whinge about the 39℃ day we're expecting over here. Or the 24℃ night we just had.

I could brag about the mutton shoulder that has been vac packed in rosemary and garlic and preserved lemon for the night ready to go into the smoker in an hour or so.

But instead I will send my very best thoughts and wishes to those who are currently missing from our midst and doing it tough for whatever reason, be it medical, financial or other. May things improve and may you find comfort in those around you.

Harry... You could always try the Lego movie for a change cos 'everything is awesome...'
