Lotus Europa build

Grabbed the brass chassis from my last Bugeye build...



...and changed it to an adjustable wheelbase one.



It's about 1/4" longer than the Bugeye's 2 1/2", so I'm curious on the possible improvement on handling.



With the custom-made Ranch Design rims, I'm going for this stance.

That looks great. Always liked Lotus, particularly since the lotus shares an engine with my Jensen Healey.

Where is the front axle and guide holder from? Certainly would make building a lot easier for me.

Got the chassis done.



Added some .064 brass side pans for additional weight now that I'm running a Scalextric FF050 20K red motor.



Ventura: The BWA front and rear brackets really simplified the build. Unfortunately they are no longer available in North America but I'm looking into an Australian source of a very similar design. I hope they have more room for the pinion but spacers between the motor and bracket do the job.

Body mounting is next.

Car's up an running after a good deal of dremeling the wheel wells and trueing the front and rear tires for clearance.





Here's a comparison with a Scalextric Mustang Trans Am to give a clearer idea on the size.



Goes good on the little test track but we'll see how it does on Luf's Targa Burnaby tomorrow.

Happy with the outcome.

Took the BWA inserts from my Mini build, four spoke BRM ones.



Just the look I was hoping for.

Cleared the window areas of resin.



That helped to lighten the body but the car's still no lightweight at 90g. Being such a little car with a narrow track, that weight (mostly in the chassis and drivetrain) helps make this a terrific runner. Ran at Luf's Targa Burnaby, a driver's road course that's best taken at partial throttle through the various elevation changes and huge variety of corners, and got down to a sub 8 lap at 7.865 seconds. That's pretty good for this course in the realm of a typical stock Slot It.

I'm very pleased with the performance so now onto the cosmetics.
