Need help on inclines

Postby death on 4 wheels » Sun Apr 12, 2015 12:29 pm

I'm doing a Carrera Evolution 8x8 layout. I'm going to make it portable to a degree. The back straight area is going to be around 6-8 in higher than rest of track. What way would be better Styrofoam risers or wood?

Personally, I would use something that is sold at lumber yards and at Home Depot and Lowes. I don't know the proper spelling, but it's something like "lu-on". It's basically a very thin, 3 layered sheet of plywood, and it's very flexible. You could cut out a section that is the same shape the section you want to raise, then use most anything under the "lu-on" to raise it up.

D on 4 wheels,

As NHDungeon mentions, there is a product called luan (but it is pronounced exactly as he spelled it). It is typically about 1/8" thick and not too expensive. There is also a product referred to as 'bending board' or 'bender board'. It is used to skin a radius, and is very flexible. The minimum radius is dependent upon the thickness of the board. It is much more flexible across the grain (the curves are from side to side of the sheet as it comes from the supplier) than it is along the grain (a curve from end to end of the sheet). Bender board is more expensive and typically not carried by places such as Lowes (as least around here).

Have to agree that a hard surface, noisy or not would be better for a sectional track.
