I'd like to be able to paint eyes, has that been covered before?

The future floor wax use to work great, but the weaker formulation they use now isn't as good as it was 10-15 years ago. I buy it at Ace under the "Pledge" name. I have also tried Mop and Glow, but it too is weaker. I have always used this stuff on my car interiors, also. Full size cars. It seems to last longer than any of the products designed for car interiors.

J&J bought Future long ago. I can't tell a difference.

If you are having problems with spray paint that does not want to dry that is caused by water trapped in the paint. When you spray when it is humid water will condense out of the air and get caught in the paint which will cause it to take days to dry in many cases. Wait for a dry day to paint or get a dehumidifier.
On the subject of Future the bottle that I have is the older original stuff, I have not tried the Pledge version. Even the older Future will not protect decals for long, even if you use multiple coats. I use it as a barrier to coat decals before I apply a solvent based clear coat.

It would seem that if moisture was a problem, I would have trouble with the lacquer blushing. I usually spray in the house and I don't think humidity is much of a factor here. If moisture is the problem, that would explain guys using de-hydrators todry the paint. I haven't used enamel for years, as the lacquer seems so superior to me.

I use the new Pledge version of Future shine and feel it's a good clear. I don't see much of a difference in the new one.







Usually 2 good brush coats. Never harms decals, protects very well.
When it's dry I buff them out with Meguiar's Gold Class polish.

These cars have seen some HARD racing. They do get a scuff mark from time to time. Most times buff them out and they look just fine.

I won't use any rattle can or any other clear.

Been using more lacquer lately. Duplicolor found at the good old Auto Zone or other parts stores.
Same body prep for any other car. Make sure it's clean and dry, and I just coat to cover evenly.

I've been seeing some interesting metallics at Wallyworld, too. I think they are Duplicolor, but they could be regular Krylon. There is a vivid blue, a bright red, and a dazzle green, but the home run is a burnt copper with copper metalflake. The silver is kinda boring, looking at the cap. I keep thinking about what they would look like with Future on them.

My local parts store hasn't gotten in the Duplicolor Metal Specks "Burnt Orange" yet - but I have used the "Retro Red" and LOVE it! That is what the fenders on my VW Kafer are painted with and it looks GREAT in the light! :D

I will have to see if my local Auto Zone has that on sale as well - because if they do, I see some colors I need to add! :D

Anyone tried or use polyurethane as the clearcoat?

This car was supposed to make it's debut this weekend at Harry's. It is essentially real metalflake,
with about 20 coats of Testors High Gloss clear laquer to smooth it out. For those of you who have
done real metalflake, you know it takes a lot of coats of clear. I had no problems with blushing or
yellowing. Though I agree that clear floor coatings do not seal wet transfer decals well, it does
work where a single coat is all that is necessary. It will cause lighter colors to turn yellow, though.

Yep, Dave, I learned the hard way about yellowing lighter colors. I had a light buttercup yellow car for a few days that was supposed to be white. El Strip-O to the rescue! 91% isopropyl alcohol.
