fat 356 build

Looking great Dan.

I got started on mine today. The wheel wells are cut out, a bit of thick stuff has been thinned, and I laid out the basics. I am planning to make mine a sidewinder with a red slim can in a D3D pod. I won't have room for tandem rear tires, but should have bigger tires than most sidewinders. I am planning to make another "Don-flex" chassis for it.

I like your cockpit and headrest. With a hard tonneau there is no need to open the whole thing on the drivers side. I'm planning a compound curved small windshield that I have cut out of packaging plastic.

I will try to take a pic of mine and add it later tonight.

Someone else is doing the final painting, so after some primer this guy's ready to move on.



Chassis's running well after assembling with a torquey Scale Auto boxer motor, 9:24 gearing, Ninco Lightning rims, Luf urethane tires and TSRF guide.



Been a fun build. Time to finish off some of my own projects.

Let me start with an admission...I suck at building almost anything! BUT...and (no pun intended) it's a big but, my race buddy Dan makes great little scratch built cars that go like crazy! He came to racing one night with a Godzilla Porsche 356...big flares, nicely done...I HAD TO HAVE ONE!!!! It's almost square...2.75" rear track (limit on our tracks for 1/32), and just monster looking! We negotiated a price, and I waited. Dan's car had a really powerful motor, and could spin the tires at will. I was going to put an even more powerful motor in it, and there was lots of tire room in the rear end, so I decided on dual wheels/tires! Of course, this is a fantasy car...little connection to reality. I got the primed car back a little while ago...still thinking of a paint scheme...here is what the body looks like. This thing GOES!!! Paint is next...thanks Dan!!! :text-thankyouyellow:

I agree Allan, but I suggest a 356 Porsche proxy with two classes, mild and wild. Mild would be stock width body, thin tires and <15K motor. Wild would be, well you guessed it, open! Set maximum width at 2.75, any motor any width tires. I'm in, I just have to finish my car, and I have a stock Munter resin body for the other. I also have a Shotgun coupe, hmm, it would look good with flares.

Doug, your tub looks great. I love the metal flake paint job. I can't wait to get home to see it in person.

Can I get one of your pops of Dan's wide body 356? There's a pesky dragon named "Smaug" that needs to be tamed and I think that this may be the car that can do it.................. :think:
