What single car type do you own the most of?

Postby Modlerbob » Thu May 28, 2015 1:22 am

I am in the middle of moving out of the location where my tracks have been for the last 4 years which has also been where all but a few of my slot cars were kept. While boxing them up I decided to determine what single car type I have the most of. By manufacturer alone I am sure Ferrari is at the top of the list. But by single model such as Lola T70, Ferrari 512, Ford GT, or Chevy Corvette the winner at 15 is the Ford GT. That kind of shocked me as I am a dyed in the wool GM Chevy guy who also has a deep affection for the Ferrari brand. The single Ferrari type I have the most of is the F40 split between Slot.It and Fly at 6. I also have 6 or 7 Corvettes and the same number of Camaros. I have about 6 Lola T70 coupes and 4 spyders. But I have 5 Fly Ford GTs, four Slot. Its, 4 scaleys and 2 NSRs. They are split between the Mk I and Mk II. I also have a NSR Mk IV. How did I end up with so many Ford GTs ? I guess it's because they are so dang pretty.

ModlerBob,

That's a terrible thing . . . . . having so many Ford GT40 in many different manufacturers, variants and such. I think the Ford GT40 is an iconic car and as such is something to be proud of.

There are several Ford GT40 variants in my collection as well. Not as many as you, but then again, I've been in hobby shops that don't have the kind of numbers you have either! :D

I do believe my most prolific car is the McLaren of the heydays of Can-Am racing. First of all I attended Can-Am races, loved putting those high output V-8s into little British sports cars and then watching the engineers come up with ways to keep from flying away.

The McClaren M8 made by Slot.It is one that takes up a lot of room. I presently have 4 of them. The #48 - Dan Gurney version, the #12 "Led Zepplin" version (actually I have 2 of those. One is still wrapped snuggle away in an unopened box). There are 3 white kits that I bought. 2 of them are M8D/E variants and the other one will soon become an M8C variant. I have one of the George Turner resin M8A variant and I'm currently waiting for the #2 Vic Elford and the #12 Paul Newman cars to be released. I guess that brings my M8 count to 9 cars. I also have a Revell-Monogram McLaren #5 M6A of Dennis Hulme. Mine runs quite well as I was able to slide one of the Slot.It M8 chassis and power train under it.

Hey, there's so much to the slot car hobby. I'm glad we can share it like we do.

If I get the blood sugar and pressure problems straightened out - passing out upon standing is NOT a good thing - perhaps I can make it over prior to you closing the facility down. I feel badly that you worked so hard trying to make DeBary Glen into a club, but you never really had any members. But you get an A+ from me for your efforts.

Any one single car that is easy for me the Ford GT40 (I developed a wee obsession for them when I first got into slot cars) I would have to go count them....

In terms of series - I have a mess of JGTC/Super GT cars (around 40 of them)

An easy winner - 52x 917k (Fly/NSR)......

I was obsessed and had to acquire every Fly 917k - not an easy task I can tell you based on the number they released.

I know I'm cured now as Flyslot have been releasing cars like they are going out of fashion and I've been able to resist......

Well, until about a month ago, I think I had about 23 Slot.It Audi R8Cs. Second place would be twenty or so Porsche 917Ks.

Slot.it Ferrari 312, can't get enough of them. I'm pretty sure I have every one they made, along with a some doubles I've "fixed" up and a few more in boxes waiting for me to do something with them. They are probably my favorite slot car, they just look awesome going around the track.

My single largest collection is the Chevron by Fly. I think I have all of the classic versions. I also have a pretty strong collection of Slot.it Ford GT's, I have all of them including, the never released in the US, black and orange special.

Porsche, with its many variations, wins at my house hands down. A bunch of Fly's but lots of Slot-it, Scalextric and Ninco as well.

Not having a large collection I am still surprised that I have 4 Fly C5 Corvettes (1 R, 2 hardtops and a roadster). My largest group, by far, are the classic (40s-60s) sports cars, followed by Trans Am.

Im stuck on all things Aston Martin, you know Champagne tastes with a Budweiser bank account.
Having said that My collection of series would have to be 60s and 70s F1.

Haven't counted for a long time but no need to:

Mustangs - Scalextric and Pioneer T/As, Carrera classic and modern, Monogram GT350s, Auto Art 2005 race and street liveries and multiples of the same liveries within the categories.

Followed by Cobras from Revell, Ninco, Carrera, MRRC and the Monogram Daytona varieties.

I'm pretty certain third would be the Scalextric Lotus 7s and Caterhams - 13 of those.

Most of my cars would be NASCAR iron. I haven't counted but I have several Carrera wing cars and none winged. Mostly of the Mopar variety. I do have a Petty Ford. I have Revell 60s Plymouths and Fords, Scaley Nascar Fords and Chevys, SCX Dodges, Chevys, Ford. Several of these cars have been in proxies races. Some NIB.
