Another look at Fly

Came to this party a little late, but I wanted to throw in my two cents worth. I think Fly saved the home-based slot car industry. When I look at the models from (pre-Fly) Carrera, Scaley, and others, I have no interest at all in buying those cheap looking toys that run like cheap toys. (Sorry if I stepped on any toes. I am not criticizing you.) But a Fly? As BRS said, it was Fly who made slot cars that I really wanted to own and drive. My first Fly was the Ferrari 512 with two sets of decals. The motor shaft had pressed against the rear wheel and left a permanent dent. Made me angry, but that little model seduced me. Back in the sixties I always worked on my cars but they never looked as good as Fly. So, with a little bit of enjoyable work I had discovered Fly and re-discovered slot racing. I think many of us in the US share a similar story. Without Fly, I would not be slot racing today.

I can agree with this statement. My friend who got me into slots did it by dragging my butt up to Mark's Model World in Canton, Ohio where they were racing...Fly cars! I could not believe the detail on them when I saw my first one up close. I also couldn't believe they were actually racing the darn things.

Most beautiful model are Fly ,details are good ,yes they do need some work for my Wood track but Worth it

You can't say you have a Fly Porsche 908 because when you start looking at the details you realise there are lots of differences between the various liveried models. This may be a vent in a different location , the rear spoiler with tabs or without , cockpit opening varies , front aero tabs or not. They are fantastic models based on actual race cars hence the specific information on the base of the clear case giving the event and year. I've got shall we say several 908's and don't get me started on the Chevron liveries. "Why have you got lots of the same car?" says madam, they just don't get it , do they? 8-)

I love Fly slot cars, have over a hundred of them and enjoy running them on the track, especially the likes of the 908s, 917s, 512s, T70s, etc. Beautiful slot cars, like most models they greatly benefit from a rear rubber upgrade. I have a Fly 917K that whips my NSR 917Ks every time and looks better doing it!

My latest Fly addition. My 4 lane routed track is not large, somewhere around 50 running feet. Fly cars are perfect for me for that length. My experience is that a well set up slot.it or NSR will wax a well set up Fly car. But that is not an issue for me, we race and enjoy those too, just separately. Fly cars really provide excellent competition on my track.
