Probably a silly question with an obvious answer, but does the car have to have run at Indy.............? Or would a GP car of the pre-'67 era also be OK? Question asked in relation to entering a 1938-39 Auto Union Type C or D. I've always wanted to build out one of the original "silver arrows".

Allan, Normally I would say no. It would be like putting a Camaro in the Ford vs Ferrari race. BUT, If you could do something like this! It was a Collaborative effort based on the Auto Union Design at the time. I think we could bend the rules a bit for this one. If you read up on this car, it had some of the biggest names of the time building on this car.

That's fine Bob; that's what I thought; just asking. That Tucker Special looks interesting, but I think I'll look around a little more carefully for a car that fits into the Indy 100 proxy, because I'm pretty sure that no one makes that body. Thanks for doing some research on it; it would be an interesting car to enter! I'm sure I'll find another car............soon!

Allan, I guess I didn't make myself clear on this. My point was, that if the car above made the race based on the Auto union design, Your choice would be acceptable to me in a "might have been" category. Since Maserati, and several other GP cars have been entered in the Indy race, Auto Union would have been a natural choice had it not been for WWII. I say build it and run it! Its not that big of a stretch.

Ahhhhh...........the lights come on! I think I hear trumpets in the background................but with my hearing...........heck, I hear them all the time anyway..............!

Thanks Bob, the C-type will be my entry! Now, where can I find a V16 motor........................?

Really, I haven't been this excited about building a car in a long time! :banana-dance:

This car represents, to me, the birthplace of Audi racing, since Audi was one of the 4 companies the joined forces to produce the Auto Union racing cars of the '30's. Do we have to wait until May................? February might be nice..............

In appreciation of being allowed to run the "might have run" Auto Union Type-C, I've chosen a second car that's, I think, spot on: the inaugural 1913 winner, the Marmon Wasp. Some challenges ahead with this build, for sure, but I think it will be fun!

Wow Allan! You have picked a couple of tuff builds for this one! Cant wait to see either of them.
We should have most of the Glory years covered in this race. You HAVE to post build pics of that wasp.

Ditto Allan , I would love to see the build of the Wasp.
Such a historic car deserves to be remembered in pictures.

Yes, I think I have probably bitten off way more than I can chew on this upcoming Marmon Wasp build! Fortunately, I have awhile to think about it, since June isn't exactly right around the corner. So, time is on my side at this point, but skill set is definitely lacking.................

Allan, That might work if you mount the rear drive wheel to the motor shaft!
Brakes? we don't need no brakes............
