TGIF

Postby HomeRacingWorld » Fri Sep 11, 2015 7:10 am

Well another week in the books. Been a very busy one around here as we recover from all the fun from last weekend.

Today is of course one for reflection and remembering. My way of honoring those who gave all is to embrace those around us today. We are truly blessed with some of the greatest people around us and we thank all of you for making our lives a little better.

Because it is about the people in this hobby. These little toys would not be anything without good friends to share them with. Last weekend was like all the events before it, where I pause to appreciate the people who we have come to know because of this little hobby. Looking back I remember many faces and some of them may not be with us anymore, but the memory of them lives on.

We as a community are pale in comparison to other hobbies, but we have grown more than I ever expected. When I say "we" I mean our hobby and that includes everyone. When I hear reports of people on hard times, regardless if it's health or other, it's time to try and lend a hand when we can. This week was not the best for some of us. Some that I know are facing the harsh wrath of illness and cannot be here with us. Some face other challenges. I was called about the problems SCI was facing and it saddened me to hear it. Some may feel HRW is somehow a competitor to other sites, but truth we are not.

We are an enthusiast site. None of us here make a living running it. My reviews and reports are just that: mine. I report what I buy and have fun with and simply share it. All I ever want to do is help in some small way to improve our hobby. Well, sites like SCI help do that. ANY site that shares the fun of slot car racing is important. Think of all the information that is priceless inside these sites. Anyone who has taken the time to document a project knows the work involved. The LAST THING I ever want to see is this information to go away. I was over at SlotBlog the other day and read some great information about retro chassis design. Good googly moogly, you can't buy the timeless information our veteran enthusiasts share with us.

So we hope things get fixed very soon. And for those that still feel we are in some way a competitor or actually want to see any other site go away? Well, not much else we can say other than you are mistaken.

Also want to wish Ken (Moose) a turn for the better. Many remember him as one of the most talented scratch builders our hobby has. His Grand Prix builds alone would cause you to sponge off your keyboard. Not to mention the many ways he helped newcomers begin the art of scratchbuilding. He sent us a box of cool old models and all he asked was for them to go to good homes. Just one more selfless act that he is known for. Most of them are already on the way to new homes...stay tuned. THANK YOU MOOSE and we hope you get well soon.

Now for the slot side of things:)

With new releases getting ready to literally rain upon us in the next month or so, it will be rather hectic around here to say the least. I do not even try to keep up with all the latest "news" as there is so much during this time of year.

I'll say that what you see me personally report will be directed to the Home Racer as best I can. Home racing is what HRW is all about and has been since we turned the lights on many moons ago. Regardless if you are a more advanced builder or just enjoying what you get out of the box, there are many facets to what we call our hobby. One of those that is important to me is helping the new would-be enthusiast.

Remember that YOU were once a newbie. You had a lot of questions and were looking for answers. We see a vast diversity in this group and sometimes we forget that what we think is common knowledge, is all a foreign language to them. I'll do my best to help them and I know the CORE home racers here will do the same, just like you do every year.

Finishing up my little Vette project this weekend and doing almost a 180 with some tuning on the "little guys". Those smaller cars that I rarely get around to will be warming my benchtop quite abit. Not to mention some resin projects that WILL get started (ahem).

Hope all of you have a fun and safe weekend. Thanks again for being here and making our small slice of the web a fun one.

Very Well said Harry. I call HRW my home, because it fits my personality. I know there are other slot car sights, and they have their own personality, not bad, just different. Any, and all information regarding this hobby is priceless as you have stated.
I would hate to see any slot car site disappear for any reason. If there was anything I could do to help, I would do it.
Thankfully, there is a niche for everyone in this hobby, regardless of what winds your clock spring. In the roughly two years I have been back into this hobby, the folks here at HRW have helped me more than I can ever repay.
The first, and last thing we all need to remember, is we are all in this for fun. I always hope that when someone asks a question on this board, that I can use what I have learned here to be of some assistance.
I hope that the other sites can stay afloat, as there would be a tremendous amount of Slot racers that would be "homeless" in a way.
I know it would be a terrible thing for me to not be able to log on and have my morning coffee with my slot friends from all over the world on HRW, I can only imagine what that would be like.
On a happier note, The ROAR cars will get ran this weekend, Up the Dragon and back to see who has the Mo-Jo for the twisty's!
I have several projects going also, a couple of nice ASA Cars, and a few Open wheel projects too. some bench time will be good this weekend.
Still cant get over my trip to HQ! my sides have finally stopped hurting from the laughter though, don't know if that's good or bad?
Again, Thanks go out to Harry and Cindy for a fantastic time, great food, and just all around good folks. It just does not get any better than that.
Thank you again!
Have a great weekend all!
Bob

Well put Gentleman.

We are very blessed on our slot board here.

It was this slot board that got me through my tough times with my surgery the end of last year into the beginning of this year.

I come here every day to look at all the great things our members provide on this board.

I couldn't imagine not having this board to come to every day?

I didn't realize SCI was having problems? I was a moderator for Alan there years ago and started up the swap shop area.

I hate to hear about people falling on hard times. Too much of that in the world now a days......

God Bless and have a great weekend!

A day to remember and a day to give thanks for the freedoms that allow such prosperity, diversity, and unity that this great country holds, characteristics that enable us to be so passionate about our curious little hobby.

Thanks Harry, for all that you do for HRW.

I have met many great folks on and off the web, dealing with slot heads all over the world has been a pleasure in its self.

I started a new build Monday in 1\24 hope to get my wheels turned and more work done on it. :music-rockout:

My boss did not want me to get use to a 4 day work week so he is going to let me work Saturday :violence-smack:

I will spend a few sometime this weekend and reflect 9-11 and all that made the ultimate sacrifice :flags-waveusa:

hope all of you have a great weekend :music-rockout:

Concur with everything you guys said and more.
Harry, thanks for your kind words about Moose, I would probably never have gone into scratchbuilding so heavily if it weren't for him. Many of my first resin bodies came from him. A great guy and a real promoter of the hobby, before his illness he was a driving force in our group.
Thanks, again.

And this thread and the sentiments expressed make me very happy to be a part of the hobby. I could not agree more with everything Harry's said.

Its a day for remembering, isn't it, guys? It started last night for me. Fourteen years ago was the tragedy, the outrage of mass murder. A year ago, my mother died suddenly in September. I've reached an age when I hear about friends and schoolmates dying seemingly all the time. Its all been on my mind.

But then there's this place. I am comforted by my HRW friends. Some of you are are special friends, some are close to my heart, funky old pump that it is. But all of us are the familiars of each other- distinct and special among all our other connections in life. Its been said many times by many HRW folks, but I am very proud and glad that you are my friends. We weather the storms together and come up smiling and playing with our toy cars.

I couldn't agree more with the sentiment expressed here.
It is like we are all sitting around the kitchen table sharing coffee and conversation.
There are no borders , or long distances to bother our community of friends.
I recall hearing a long time ago that there are 2 types of people.
Friends, and
Friends I haven't met yet.
Have a great weekend my friends.

Well said Harry.

Worked today, an appointment with my estate attorney tomorrow morning to update the wills, buddies coming over for racing tomorrow night. They haven't seen the oval yet, so everything is ready to go! Working on the 1970 Javelin and another new T/A car. Lots of resin dust flying!

And FINALLY! The Denver Broncos play on Sunday. I am SO thrilled! I love football!
