Ford-Ferrari Wars - the Cars and the Builds

Even though it's a long ways off, the Ford-Ferrari Wars cars have my full attention. Nothing to show for it yet; just a little thinking. So, here's what I'm thinking:

1. 1967 Ferrari 330 P/4



2. 1966 Ford GT-40



The GT-40 will be mostly tuning, since the Slot.It car is pretty competitive right out of the box. The P/4 will need a lot more work; probably an HRS2 chassis underneath the body with the rockers / front end / back end migrated off the chassis and onto the body. Lay out...........well I'm thinking Scaleauto SC-0020 motors in SW configuration, 12:34 or taller gearing, might be good in both. Don't want to give one marque too much of a head start on the other...............

I'm actually trying to fit my Slot It GT 40 sidewinder chassis under a Fly Ferrari 512 body. I think it will work. I'm also thinking about building a brass and piano wire chassis for the Slot It GT 40 body.

You might want to check out CG Slotcars. They make a 3D printed chassis that fits a Fly 512. It holds a Slot.It Motor pod. Sounds like an easier route.

I am currently putting one of their chassis into a Fly Porsche 917 Spyder.

Hi Marty,

I like building something different than anyone else just to see if I can get it to handle, that to me is the fun of it. I could just put the Slot It GT40 body back on the chassis and build the brass and piano wire chassis for the Fly Ferrari body, but that wouldn't be as much fun.

I don't have a picture of it handy yet - but I started with one a used Scaley C3315 car with a cracked chassis -



The lower nose and rockers have been sliced from the damaged chassis and are currently being fitted to the body in prep for sending the whole thing to the alcohol bath to strip the paint this weekend. :D

2 very nice looking cars.
Allan that 330 is nice too. All Gt 40s are nice I think.
I have a feeling we will see some nice cars in this series.

Good luck with those rockers and front/rear piece. When I do a cut & paste, I screw the original chassis back to the body, then use tape to hold the side pieces where I want them after having applied some thin CA glue to the joints. I also put pieces of paper; roughly the same width as the saw blade that I used to cut the plastic pieces off the chassis. between the chassis and the plastic pieces, so that I can come as close to duplicating the original position of the pieces as I can. Then I unscrew the chassis and use epoxy with 1.0mm plastic strips to reinforce the areas where the plastic piece have been glued to the body.

So far..........so good............

Ok, so I have to admit to not having done this a lot.........but this all sounds like a LOT of work to me. Why don't you just glue the whole thing together solid, and then cut the base out with the Dremel? That's how I did it. The running gear and all comes out. You naturally have the right alignment. Granted, I am not a concours detail modeler so I am probably missing something.....

Thankfully, the Scalextric GT-40's the body is tabbed into the rockers and the front has a lip that the bottom fits into, so for this one, keeping things aligned and square won't be a problem - but I will definitely have to look at trying the pre-attachment/glue method in the future tackling something like a D-type Jag or Merc 300 SLR where the rockers aren't tabbed/pinned/etc to the upper half.
