Sonic Booms and slot racing

Living about five miles from a major airbase, Sonic booms are nothing new around here at all. Problem is, when they get bad enough to shake a floro tube out of the fixture above your track, bad things happen! No real damage,just a broken 1960's era plastic fence, and a few hail bails. Cars did not get hit. but a mess to clean up for sure!

get some of those plastic bulb covers, at least for over your track

And careful those bulbs are full of mercury

Glad there wasn't any serious carnage besides the mess to clean up!
Might not hurt to add some springs/wires running perpendicular to the bulbs across the bottom of the fixtures to catch the bulbs in the event of a re-occurrence! :(

People get really silly about the bad science these days. All of us boys saved mercury in little pill jars in the 50s (broken thermometers, mercury switches, etc). It was fun to put a blop of it in your palm and roll it around. Nowadays, there would be a bunch of dumb zealots in HAZMAT suits in the yard if a kid did that.
