Redo of Jaguar XJ220

Goog day all,

I need some assistance. I got this Jag the other day and it is in dire need of some TLC.



So I took it apart and gave it some attention. New wheels, ne crown gear, good clean up. I stripped the paint and gave it its first primer coat. Spent some time on the interior and are very happy what it looks like so far.









She will be white with Martini livery when done.

But my challenge - the broken window I can fix, because I have another window that was melted at the back. So that can be fixed. The window is also melted. Are ther any way that I can fix the bent and melted part without breaking or cracking the window further?

Looks like an interesting project Gavin. Damaged clear parts can be a tough nut to crack beyond wholesale replacement. I can't tell by your photos if the back window is fairly straight so I will assume that it is. What I can see is the left side glass is badly damaged and there is a twist running through that glass from left to right. I suggest that you cut the damaged door glass out completely and then cut the whole assembly into two pieces, fore and aft, running your cuts through natural seams in the glass that depict the seams in the 1:1 car. Then you can reinstall the glass in two pieces which should hopefully eliminate your twist. If you want to replace that side glass, it is flat so it could be cut out from almost any clear plastic and glued in with canopy cement.

id dremel the side window out to make it look like window is down..... maybe add some mess for a window net

So I will take out this ones rear window and replace it with the one I have.

The only thing is the colour is different, but that will not look too bad.

Another question - sorry for buggering you around.

Iwant to change the guide from the old scaley guide that touches the two arms. To a ninco spring load guide. This is what chassis looks like.





For this to happen and to fit the wires and all I will have to cut out the half moon piece of the chassis just infront of the guide post.

My concern, will this not weaken the guide post? I do not want to change something that will come to byte me later on.

Your ideas on this will be great.

If you have time (and patience :roll: ) to order from this side of the pond....I'd look at the B-Nova adapters. I'm no expert on these but I have a car that I bought that has one and it works great. Harry is the guru on these so you might want to pick his brain.

Looking pretty good; are you going to "insert" the new wheels or leave them as is?

Thanx I surely will see if I can get hold of those Nova adaptors.
At this stage I will keep the wheels as is. I like the deep aggresive look of the rears, just not sure whether I will keep the stock

Nice subject the XJ220......why was it called a 220?

Another possibility for your guide support could be to use Slotit parts. ie the front of their HRS chassis which has the axle supports and guide mount as one and is available separately. You could cut off the axle supports and just use the guide plate glued into optimum position.
I used this on a Scaley Ferrari 330 with a broken guide mount. I was modifying the whole car because it was a lost cause without that repair.

Thanx, we do have access to the slot it parts and will surely keep that in mind.

You guys this one awesome forum. A guy Martin also a member sent me a PM indicating that he has a spare window for me and that I need to send him my address. It turned ou Martin is also from SA. I redone one of these a few years ago, but have since then removed the pictures from my Photobucket. They make very good runners. :)
