sideways rig for the can am

Had to jump on the sidewinder band wagon, as I had never done one before. I liked all the designs I saw, but wanted something a bit different. don't know if its a winner or not, but it is as easy a build as could be. Of course it still needs all the small stuff, guide mount, side pans etc. but the basic chassis rails are done and solid.
I took two sections of .064 x 1/2" brass, cut to four inches long to start. I then put them on top of each other and did the layout for motor mounts and axles using a 1/4" centerline splitting the side rails. Center punched and drilled the holes, then soldered in the axle tubes.rear tube cut for motor clearance, and added 3/16" bearing collars. the side rails will be drilled to reduce weight if needed.This design is old as slot racing itself, as a lot of very early cars had similar arrangements. it worked then, should work now.(I hope) :lol: Its no WISE engineering job, but it will do.

Thanks Chris, It is kind of funny, as I was thinking this out, this design kept coming into my head. Probably from back when the Kemtron was popular. My end result turned out to be almost a carbon copy of the ones you posted, and I didn't even consider the drop arm. I made some test runs this AM, and it performs great! The side pans will slide over the posts, and attach the body.
