I just survived another round of layoffs. 26 got it. They were replaced by part time. It is the wave of the future to hire people that are not full time. They can get 3-4 times more workers for the same price.

But I left with a 37 yr. pension & severance pay....so I paid off all the bills. :D :D

it leaves about 30 full time and a bazillion adjuncts.

Adjuncts. That explains it. I wondered how they were operating at all.

I was asked about doing adjuncts here (there are a half dozen small colleges and a lot of jr. colleges and community colleges around here- they have an unofficial network of faculty to draw from, the natural result of the redefinition of "tenure" in the last decade or so), but at the time I was still very sick. I suppose I might be able to do it nowadays, but without benefits or job security, and the pay is low enough a person could actually lose money driving back and forth to some of them.

When Harley made the shift to casual workers, they actually handed you an application as you were getting laid off. Just in case you wanted to come back to work with no benefits, vacation or holiday pay. And for less money as well. I have been gone for 5 years now and still surviving. :dance:

IU only need to make next year but want to do at least the year after that. Adjunct is the wave of the future. I survived in part because I interact heavily with the students in mentoring. That is why I have a routed track drawn out but waiting to be routed. Too much work and too little energy.
