Targa Proxy Update

The proxy is soon to start. We have two out of town cars that are still incoming, and five locals that have to hand me their cars. I hope to have all assembled by this weekend, and will do qualifying and maybe the Burnaby Grind Hill Climb.

We will also do the concours judging and Doug Johnson (fotodoug) has offered to take pro quality pictures of the top cars. Since the only difference between the classes is the motor, we will be doing concours with the full lot together, and award a first second and third place prize.

We expect 34 cars. A few entrants who were planning to send cars have not been heard from, and so have been dropped from the lists.

The first two steps of the GVSCC Targa Florio Proxy happened this afternoon. With the help of others to marshal and record, I qualified the cars, by giving them ten timed laps in the centre lane in a counter clockwise direction (the way the Targa actually ran), and recording the best lap time. I have only been back into slotting for a few years after 44 years away from it, and do not consider myself one of the top drivers in our club. There will be a lot more to come from these cars when the races happen.

Most of the cars performed well with good speed and few offs. I ran the group A at 11 volts and group B at 10 volts. These were comfortable power levels for these cars and you can see most best times are quite close. Luf's Targa track, while quite technical is still fast, and some of the cars, particularly in group A were straining for more speed. This is due to gear choice. These cars should do better on the hill climb and other slower tracks.

There are no point for qualifying, but rather an order of racing has been set. Two cars did not arrive in time from local racers. They will be qualified before the first Targa race on Monday afternoon.

The Concours D'Elegance was also held. The results will be posted after fotodoug works his magic and has pics of the podium winners.

You're right, Allan.

I didn't look closely at the numbers in my attempt to get the results up last night, but the top five Class A cars are within two tenths of a second. The top eight Class B cars are also within two tenths. That is very close and bodes well for some extremely close racing and varying results. Doesn't look like any one car is going to run away with this.
