Thanks Tom!

Now, decisions, decisions, decisions...
:)

I do have a little time to mull things over though, as I have a "Free" hollow core door coming from a friend later this month who is knee deep in doing some home remodeling.

In the mean time, anyone know of a "set" that includes a bunch of 15" radius curves? I figure if the is a multi-lane oval, or high speed expansion pack type set out there, that might be a less expensive option for getting the larger radius curves that I designed into each of the layouts, verses buying individual two packs.
(Appreciate any insight on that guys!)
:banana-dance:
Thanks!

Hey Todd!

Thank you for taking the time and posting those layouts that will fit a hollow core door.

I like flat layouts due to having unobscured site lines but they all look great. I like the English curve with the option of the intersection piece. As far as the specialty pieces I tend to stay away from them when serious racing but they are fun just for goofing around. As far as getting track pieces cheap, there is always reasonable lots of track on ebay or if you can find a deal on craigs list? I find cheap sets at the Richfield show from time to time also. I need a bunch of the various curves myself if I decide to build a third hollow core door track. I'm running out of room down my basement!!!

Wayne -
Appreciate the comments / thoughts...
With this morning's coffee - I came up with a couple more "possibilities" - and also changed out the overpass on the #3 English Curve with a cross over to see how it looked (I like the "flat" nature of that!)

So here are a couple more for viewing pleasure and for me to mull over....

Design 3 - English Curve - WITH the crossover added to make it "flat"

Image

Now the "new" additions...

Design 5 - Bent Paper Clip
(advantage - should be smooth fast track - but may not offer enough "challenge"?)

Image

Design 6 - Mountain Pass
(advantage - mix of high speed with variety of curve types)

Image

Design 7 - Mountain Canyon
(advantage - mix of high speed with even more varied corners / twisties)

Image

Design 8 - Mr. Twister
(advantage - mix of corner types in both clockwise and counter clockwise)

Image

On a side note - this Ultimate Racer 3.0 is a pretty darn handy tool for making up these various designs when you don't have the track pieces available to try it out live! You can input the pieces you currently have in the "track inventory" and as you flip through the different designs that you make - it will show you what pieces are used for the design, how many of those you have on hand and how many extra / additional you may have/need! VERY handy!!!
Definitely two thumbs up for the designers!

Todd,

Those additional layouts look great!

The mountain pass layouts are sweet!

I envision them with the elevation changes and mountain scenery.

The English curve with intersection is cool too!

I've been inspired by your post to work on my HO track. Someone mentioned this site:
http://www.hoslotcarracing.com/
It's an invaluable resource for all things HO.
Here's the 4 x 8 layout I put together today. Simple to assemble, uses basic tracks, and offers a nice challenge.

Victor -
Glad to have helped get the creative juices flowing - and appreciate the link!
I like the looks of your layout - it has a nice variety of straights and corner types while also mixing in some elevation changes - looks fun! :)

Wayne -
I can't seem to help myself on the design side on these hollow core door size tracks - the tough part is going to be choosing only one design! LOL!
Definitely looking forward to getting started on this project in the coming weeks! :D

Hi
all of them are looking good and fun to race,
there is some kind of book -- 101 slot car track layouts - volume 4, ho scale AFX - Tomy - Aurora - Autoworld,
the good thing of it has been made from a HRW member -- Oldstromguy(not sure of the spelling) or Dennis Lerra,
very useful, handy and a lot of tips...

:D Yeah - I think the biggest issue is going to be deciding on which one to go with! LOL!
Appreciate the tip on the book, I will have to keep an eye open for that, as it never hurts to have additional references! :D

Another question for those that have set up Tomy tracks on a door - do you find that multiple power taps are needed with this small of a track / joint design? I thought I may wire it with a second tap half way from the terminal track - but that might be over kill considering that the majority of the layouts check in the 25 to 30 foot range with the English Curve track running a little shorter at a tick under 22 foot.
Thoughts?

Todd ,

Both of my tracks are single tap . Neither seem to be a problem .

Hi
actually you can have the book on a cd... and on your computer,
we have been running 64.3 foot layout for years, we do not ever have a single tap, however we put AFX clips on most of the curves and where we have long straits, in that way the layout does not move at all, we use dual power track with 2 transfos

Good to hear about the lack of a need for additional taps...
I REALLY like this newer TOMY track from the way that the joints are put together - my previous experience is all with the old AFX tab (or tabless if you were careless) track that didn't offer nearly as robust of a section to section joint/connection.
I will figure on going with just the single tap / terminal strip and will kick around whether it makes sense to see about picking up one of the dual power pack terminal strips with an additional power pack... Not sure I really need the added power with planning to run t-jets and Magnatraction cars as the primary on it - but never hurts to have an excess of power! :D

Thanks guys!
