Does anyone have any info about why they are making new molds (especially really intricate ones like this), instead of using the old Fly molds to produce sure-fire sellers? I have so many wonderful old Fly and GB Track cars, I feel a little sympathetic to folks coming into the hobby in the last five years or so who didn't know the thrill of a Fly release of six or eight gorgeous runnable, tough-made cars at once at least twice per year. I love my Carrera goodies and I will buy more and more. I tolerate Ninco and Scaley who have lost their minds on pricing (but I seldom buy them), but I really wanted to see the various Fly legacy companies (SRC, Flyslot, and whatever the other one is, if it still exists), doing some great things at good prices to get established and independent. But I keep seeing these gorgeous, overpriced cars from SRC, all new molds, the most expensive way they could go for product to sell. Frankly, the 914's and others they have made are surprisingly well-priced considering they did new molds. (years ago, Dave Kennedy of Carrera [previously the US big cheese at SCX in the US] explained to me that the creation of new molds, even if they are variations of current molds, are expensive enough to be called risky gambles by a manufacturer.) But why make the new molds when they have a solid sale with the old Fly molds? No doubt, people like Dave have answers, even from outside the SRC company, but I am puzzled about the strategy that SRC/Flyslot/etc have taken.
