Snow Day!

Second snow of the season. Ended up with about 14" and bad blizzard conditions.

The wife still had to go to work and was not happy. I've got my fuzzy bunny slippers on while I work from home ;)

How far did she have to drive? Too bad she has a Jeep, if she had a RWD car she could have told them to buzz off! Winter storms like that are one of the reasons we're moving to NC after the house closes. You and your bunny slippers have a nice day :lol:

Hey David, I've been wondering for quite a while... Seeing as you have invested a lot of money, time and work in that pair of superjeeps, I wonder- are Jeeps easier to come by in the snowy suburban areas? Around here they are somewhat unusual vehicles, generally abused as "mudbuggers", plus a few hunters. Hardly anyone has them for daily drivers. When I looked a few years back at what was then the new 4 door model, I was astonished at how hard it is to get what you want for a decent price, new model or not. If people in the high country where you live had to go through that, there would be a lot more 4WD pickup trucks than Jeeps.

When I was shopping for 4WD, I looked at the 4 door Jeep, the Toyota FJ (?), and the X-Terra. The X-Terra was useless to me, but the Toyota had a lot that I wanted, and I have had excellent luck with Toyotas over the years. But incredibly, you can't choose your own options or equipment on it. For example, you can't get the rear carrier for the spare tire if you get a standard transmission. If you get the standard interior rather than implausible luxury version, you can't get the nice radio/CD player, not to mention you can't get a normal radio/CD player without a lot of crap I'll never want that connects to cell phones and MPEG players and stuff. It goes on and on- only two states sell the 2WD version (and one of them is in the snow belt!), paint colors tied to transmission choice, all kinds of completely silly combinations. I told the salesman, in front of customers, that I am the guy writing the check, I want it my way or I'll write the check to someone else. He thought I was joking, and so did another salesman standing nearby. The customers didn't, and as I drove away from the parking lot, I saw them getting in their cars, too. I have been thinking about the Jeep products ever since. On the other hand, we haven't had significant snow any year since that episode! Woohoo!

The Toyotas have a cult following as well and are competent off-roaders. Lots of them here too. I've never heard of the option issues you had, but most dealers order vehicles a specific way to sell and you'd probably have to order to make it exactly as you want. You're old enough to know that buying a car is nothing like it used to be.

I never looked at them as I'm a Jeep guy and don't like the suicide doors. I wanted a real 4-door.

Who knows what the truth was, but the salesman claimed they don't know what they are getting until it shows up on the truck. If true, that only means that the orders were put in higher up, and its still the situation you mentioned. I did say I was willing to wait while they found what I wanted or ordered it (it wasn't all that specific and they could have easily found what I wanted amongst vehicles that were already on this side of the ocean), and that was when he told me the story I related earlier.

I bet car buying comes back to the fun it used to be when all this insane indebtedness across the country comes home to roost.

Well thats a good reminder David.
I have to call the Garden tractor guy tomorrow and see if my snow blower attachment is in yet for the front of the tractor. Also got the cab , Funny thing when I was a kid I loved the snow. Now ,,,, not.
Just like Peter , still green grass, but calling for a snow storm this weekend.
