Sprints Plus

Postby smithspeedway » Wed Nov 18, 2015 5:36 pm

A lot of people like the Sprints Plus chassis for Midgets, Champ cars, and vintage modified. There has been a supply issue, and it is unclear whether these will continue to be available. A new company has just come out with a replacement. This chassis will be steel. Also, since many clubs cut the Sprints Plus and lengthen it for some bodies, this one comes with an adjustable wheelbase. Axle holes are the same size and height as the Sprints Plus. Motor mount is the same. This picture is an early model prototype and does not show the cooling hole under the motor area. We're looking forward to these.

He is going to have a short run done in two weeks to begin sending out samples. Regular production target is to have quantity available by January. These are made in America, and should be $11. That could go up a buck once he has his final costs nailed down.

The whole chassis supply issue has been frustrating. This new company (LVJ) has 3 models that they are working on. We asked them to expedite this project because of the short supply of Sprints Plus chassis and kits. I just want to be able to spec a series, and know that I will be able to get all the parts for the duration.

Good idea making it adjustable :text-bravo:

Is the bottom part slotted where the front piece attaches?

Do you have any way to contact them to possibly request a change?

I think this is great, but the motor mount really could use the additional 2 horizontal holes for standard can motors most of us use in 1/32. In fact, in most of our 1/24 models we don't use typical commercial motors. We use MT5, Hawks, Lighting II, Piranha, etc. Those usually have only one hole at the top and most times it's not tapped yet. And just one screw at the top or bottom isn't really enough IMHO.

If it's just for commercial racing I suppose it will be fine. But there are many of us who might welcome a new chassis that could be adapted for our needs. With the history of this chassis being sliced, diced, and installed under so many different models, a simple addition to the motor mount would make it that much more appealing.

Just a thought. Anyway, good luck to you.

Interesting. That has come up on two forums already, so I will ask him. His initial idea was to produce a straight replacement chassis, so most of the parameters are the same as the existing chassis. Having said that, it never occurred to me because I never screw my motors in.

With rumors also flying about regarding the alleged demise of the 16D motor, it makes sense to me to do it. I'll ask him if it adds any cost.

I've had a long relationship with REH Distributing in Cincinnati who is the one that has the brass Sprints Plus chassis made and distributes them. So I called them this morning to find out what is going on with Sprints Plus. They have plenty of the brass chassis and will continue to have them. What they don't have is the kits because they don't have the rear tires for the kits. If you need chassis or bodies just have your local raceway contact REH and there is no problem in getting them.

Sounds good Steve, I do agree with Harry, the motor mount holes would be an asset.
Certainly expand his market.
Price point seems pretty good too.

Great news on the Sprints Plus remaining available. Over the last year, there have been so many supply rumors for other products (Parma) floated that turned out to be true that new ones seem more believable than they used to. Having said that, this is one area that seems to be on the upswing again, and having the first option that I can remember other than the EJ's kit (still available) is a good thing. Luis (chassis guy) noted that many clubs cut the chassis and extend the wheelbase. This makes that easier.
