Going under the knife next week

Postby ccobra » Fri Dec 25, 2015 1:17 pm

If no one has noticed, I've been a little out of sorts lately and hopefully that will be remedied this coming week. My C-1 through C7 have deteriorated to a point where they are cutting into the main nerve in my spline. It's really been rough not being able to work on the slot cars. This weekend I've decided to work on the slot cars before I get my frame straightened and hopefully that will tie me over for a couple of days while I am on the mend.
Thanks to the people here at HRW I have read where other people have had this procedure and experienced good results so I am really pumped up about getting this over.

Cervical spine stuff is serious business, cobra. You watch your step and follow instructions. Ask lots of questions and be a pain in the butt. Be an informed patient, you got it? Do it.

Waay is right. Any vertebra with a C in front of it is way upstream in the spinal cord. Be patient; take it slowly and seriously while you're recuperating.

I had my C-5, C-6 & C-7 fused almost 2 years ago. Results were immediate. I could feel all the fingers on both hands and use them. The manual dexterity was about 80% almost immediately and as I continued on with physical rehab, it is very close to 100% now.

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT SKIPPING REHAB ! ! ! ! ! It is that important to a full recovery and also to help prevent issues during the healing process.

Keep us informed.

I for one am looking forward to hearing good results.

I had C5-C7 spinal surgery this time last year. It is a long slow recovery but well worth it. I got a cage and plate put in place of the vertebrae I had removed. The fusion takes up to a year to be totally fused. I would say after a little over a year late I am about 90-95% back to normal.

Take it slow, ask lots of questions,do your rehab and take it easy afterwards and DO NOT over do it! You need to look out for yourself this point forward as to not hurt yourself again.

I wish you good luck with a nice quick recovery!

There's one more thing I should have said. Its very important that you know this, straight from the neurosurgeon who ran the unit I worked on many years ago. Your back (neck) will be repaired, not fixed. Get it in your head right now that you cannot stress the repair or you will be in much worse shape. That's the biggest reason for doing your absolute best in Rehab. Phys. Therapy. Its a safeguard against you having extra places that are weak and prone to injury.

Thanks guys, my only fear is will I be able to go out to my race track, cars, and work on my computer. I really enjoy transferring my ideas to CAD and then to the 3d Printer but most of all I enjoy seeing what creations are designed here by you guys. So, I will really get my hand coordination back? If so that will be great.
