The cars cost $10. Even if they are parted out they are worth that. They probably have an FF30 motor, gears, rims and a guide mechanism that can be tweaked to something better. I build my own cars as well, so that is why I have no issue trying them out. As soon as I saw these for this price, I figured there wasn't much of a downside buying them and having a look at them. I will past judgement after I have seen them.
Looks like they are trying a HO style pick up on guide flag. HO style pickups have been around for years as well. With the lighter weight of a small car, braids can be troublesome and that is why HO pickups are lightly sprung brass strips
Again I will wait and actually see the function before I pass judgment on the design. In the video there clearly is some issue with the front end ride height, so I agree that these may in fact not fit the bill out of the box. Doesn't mean the whole design is failure. Probably has copper plate replacing wires between the motor and the pickup shoes. As I builder see very little downside in having a look at these. IF there is an easy fix, I will pass this on to the distributor for future consideration.
