Coming Back

Postby spaceshoes » Tue Feb 02, 2016 10:48 pm

After a move where I ended up selling my track that was too big for our current house, as well as the power supply, controllers, and most of my cars, it may be about time to get back into the hobby. I've visited our local commercial track a few times. While it's been fun, it's tough with it only being open two nights a week, and I really want something my young boys and I can do together more. We also live in a neighborhood that has a lot of kids. Could be something that'd produce some great times and memories. Looking to build a portable oval that could be set up in our playroom and stored in our garage when not being used. I've about got the design down, but cars is where the question comes. I'd like to get 4-5 cars to use for the kids and as races for IROC races. Looking for some suggestions for cars. Tough being out for a few years knowing what is out now. Here are a few I came across on Ebay and just wanted to get some feedback on these.

I remember seeing the START cars a couple years back. Not sure if some are still available in the states:

Paint job isn't a concern as I plan on painting them all anyways.

Thanks for any feedback or suggestions you can give.

Hi Spaceshoes, and welcome back to the hobby:

If you are looking for cars that will work well for kids, I'd go with any of the Scalextric cars that are called super-resistent. They are the ones that have black windows and no interior, and are usually much cheaper than the others. Scalextric also make a couple of generic F1 type cars. Since they are fantasy livery and design, they sell for a much lower price. In mainstream cars, your best deal will be Carrera Evolution cars. They are the most bang for the buck and are very good cars. Of course if you are wanting to buy cars for yourself, anything from Slot.it is a good place to start.

Also, if you watch the For Sale threads on this site, and are quick on the mouse, you can get good deals. Unfortunately, the best ones are gone before I even turn on my computer.

Happy shopping,

Keith
