The passing of a Great Guy...Marty Stanley (Florida_Slotter)

Bob - I cannot tell you how thankful I am that I got to race with Marty and you at your place in 2014. I had a great time and will always remember that. I'd hoped to do it again this year with both of you.

I'd spoken on and off with Marty and knew it was almost his time. I have to tell you a quick story though so you understand the man.

Marty knew my son, the LT and his bride were in Florida and he knew the LT's sister-in-law as well as my dad were having a rough go. Marty called me up and extended an invitation to them to come to his place for Thanksgiving. Here's a gentleman going through what he's been through, and he's worried about my son. The LT had already accepted another invite but passed his thanks along for Marty.

A month later, my dad passed away. I won't share the note Marty sent me as it is personal, but I will share this portion of it:

"If there is anything I can do to help, please do not hesitate to ask."

Dear Marty - Thanks for being not only a great slot friend to many of us, but also for being a genuinely good human being. See you soon and rest in peace my friend.

I have one car to remember him by.....I was looking to trade a Scaley P4 for an Autoart C-Type. Marty went for it......what he didn't tell me was he didn't have a C-Type. Instead he ordered me a brand new one from Electric Dreams. I will never part with that car!

It is and always will be a pleasure to have had Marty as a personal friend.

His forte in life was to teach. The love of his life was his family.

He enjoyed his life and made the most out of every day.

I will miss our conversations; But he will always be at my side when I am having fun with slot cars.

Even though I never met Marty his advice along with Harry and Cjent helped me make my decision to choose 1:43 when I discovered HRW on a research hunt I was going to build a highly detailed 1:25 static mustang for Binghamton N.Y. NNL model show.
After alot of Questions Marty asked me what size my room was and how much space was actually available for the track. I told him and he said with that size your best bang for your buck is 143 so after a few more questions to Harry and Cjent I went and got a Carrera go set and some cars.
Thourgh watching Marty's builds I decided to mod some of the plastic chassie's and the skills he demonstrated inspired me to do so.
I owe him much gratitude in moving my slot car fun forward I will miss his insight and his selflessness in helping any one to learn more and have fun in our hobbie.

Rest easy Marty your work will be remember by all here.
Dear Lord please be with Marty's family and let them have comfort in their time of sorrow and knowledge that he has helped so many here Amen.

F- cancer. Saw that once here on the forum. I know from who and i agree. I had the great privalege of dealing with marty and reading all his posts from doing various searches. Ill share a story of my one time dealing with him about 5 months ago....
He was looknh for the #17 David Pearson Torino. I saw the add and figured hes looking for it... It must mean something to him. I had bought this car from shotgun for like $20 bucks. I sent him the pm and said its yours. He sent back and said he would give me $50 for it. I tild him he was crazy i paid $20 for it and the chrome was cracking and the windshield was cracked. Well we agreed ge would send me a tore apart fly chevron. I never asked what it was. I was just happy to help him get a car he was looking for it. Well if any one knows or seen my track you know the vintage stock cars and ta cars are my thing. Marty was happy and once i got the fly i was happy too. Well a few weeks later i found another #17 and snatched it. My one time dealing with marty was a joy!
