Am I the only one who really loves their front motored cars?

I knew I couldn't be the only one, and they do drive a bit differently. ShotgunDave.... Thanks for the kind word on the Vette. I always read any of your Jalopy posts and just love them. I believe I might try one of those in the not so distant future. Ky.Slot Racer, 2For Slots, and Retro Racer... Cool to see how you have approached the front mount thing. I guess now I really have to put the solder where my mouth is and post the results.

I am not really sure what the plastic is. Luf, a retired plastics fabricator, gave it to me when I asked if he had a scrap of teflon. In any case, my machining abilities, or lack thereof, meant the block of plastic didn't last long, and it has since been replaced with brass. The drive shaft just goes through a hole in the brass and there appears to be no excess wear, yet.

I love front motored cars too! I have raced a Scalextric L-88 in the Vintage Le Mans class on both wood and plastic tracks. I also have a lot of fun with my Monogram Greenwood 'Vettes on both types of tracks. I also find myself running a lot of laps with my Monogram GS 'Vette and the similar Mustang. They are a lot of fun to fling around, especially on shorter tracks. Even though I have many cars that are "Better" or faster, I seem to have more fun pushing my Greenwood Vettes around my track than anything else. Those cars just seem to respond to the throttle in ways that other cars don't. They are really fun to push hard.

It sounds like Scalextric won't be making any more front motored cars. Hopefully Professor Motor will revive Monogram so we can have some more front motored fun!

I like most of my front motored cars. The biggest problem with the Flys IMHO is anchoring down the bushing on the drive shaft.

Front motor always is an interesting challenge. I did not expect this experiment tomrun well, but it won races.
The reason why I made it was to keep the complete cockpit.







Later, for a faster track, it was lightened and continued running very well, at least at this faster track.

Heck... When I started this topic, I was afraid they were going to revoke my HRW membership! I really appreciate everyone's comments and pictures. The perfect handling slot-car for me is one you car really drive with the throttle. This means one that will easily slide laterally, but takes a hard strait set as soon as you punch it. My front motor cars (although... yes, not currently my fastest cars), once tweaked out, will do that for me.
