Mega G opinions

What do you guys who have owned or driven Mega G cars think of them? How do they compare to the Super G+ or Tyco 440X2 or other proven racers?

The Super IIIs were a big disappointment. Don't want to buy high priced junk.

The Mega G cars are really nice. not much needed to get them going. I love them.
Of course they are going away for the newer Mega G+ which has a can motor in it now.

Note: still a ton of Mega G's available out there.

I raced HO for years and had bought several Super G+ cars over the years that they were made and still had them all up till I sold them off to go bigger. When the Mega G's came out I just had to have some. We even had a racing series that we put together and it was the spec car. The only changes allowed were tires. The cars run good and are fast with little tuning to be quick. They are however disappointing in the lasting department.

We ran at 24 volts and I found that I needed to put brushes in them often. I had to replace the arm after only 2 months of regular use. In the end I ended up buying a second one as it was cheaper than a pair of brushes, brush springs, and a arm.

Not as if my super G+ cars never needed anything, but not like those cars did. With the Super G's it was the chassis that would break. BSRT makes a great replacement that I never broke not even once.

I am no longer running HO, but if I ever do again it would not be a Mega G. I'm done with them forever.

That's just my opinion so take it as you wish or buy one to try for yourself and form your own.

Compared to SG+ and G3 cars Mega Gs have smaller motor brushes and do not like being run at higher voltages as much. At 18 volts the brushes and armatures would last much longer. Once you wear a groove in the commutator the car will start to slow down. I have a commutator truing machine, so I can extend the life of an armature considerably. Possibly Slottech or Wizzard brushes would last longer. Mega Gs were designed so modern open wheel and sports bodies could be used, that did compromise performance to some extent.

When the TYCO 440 series cars were new, I won my first race with this group using a TYCO 440 Indy Car painted orange w/ #14 decals to look like one of A.J. Foyt's cars. I've still got it, with the original aj's silicones on the rear wheels, and of course the front wings have long ago been knocked off! As I've said before, I now stick with the modern AFX brand of inline cars, which also keeps my nostalgic connection to AURORA, even though that name is unfortunately long gone from the marketplace.
Still an AURORA Thunderjet 500 guy at heart! Enjoy... Ernie :>)

AJ's squared! I like it! I watched him run for many years.
agree the love of t-jets, but to run 'em nowadays on tomy plastic track, you gotta work the joints over a lot so they go around. at least I do.

thanks i'll try it. on my track it's the places where the slot widens in the corners as much as anything.
