Wreckin' Rusty's Demolition Derby

Postby ourwayband » Sat Dec 29, 2012 3:35 pm

When do you hear the biggest laughs and seem to have the most fun racing?
Well, most of the time when you nerf or wreck the other guy.Yes I know, that's not real racing,or is it?This hobby to me is all about the fun and good times shared with other racers..I've had a simple thought in my head for some time.Don't say it,Simple is about as complicated as I get....
A figure 8 Demolition Derby.Eldon did it back in the day and scalextric has done it over
the years. They even have a set coming out in 2013 called Demolition Derby.
I wanted to use Carrera track that I already had. Also we can also race 1/24 cars.
They don't make the crossover,so we made one.Not perfect, but it works.
Got the wife to help me try it out.She had fun,and I had a blast!!!Now you don't want to run those special detailed cars, but grab some of those older, tuff ones and have at it.She even suggested that we need to trailer race. That's a cool lady!We will detail the track a little and maybe make some boarders..
My other plans are to make some cars that will come apart kinda like the ol' Kenner Smash up Demolition Derby cars of the 70's.I think we can use light magnets to hold on hoods ,doors and such. When ya wreck, the parts fly ,then you just slam them back together..
Well enough of my goofy thinking.let's have some fun!
Rusty

That looks like a blast Rusty! Now you need some old clunkers to run on it.

Thanks gents!!While running on wood is my passion,I just can't get away from this. There is something about putting a few pieces of plastic track together ,placing a car on it and seeing it work...Now we need to build some clunkers, with flying off doors, hoods, and fenders..This slot car racing will keep ya young at heart..

This is cool Rusty, you need a couple old hammers to beat on there. It really makes me want one now. Jim

Your welcome Rusty. The nerf bars are actually metal hangers that I bent and hot glued into the Artin chassis. That should tell you how old they are. LOL The bodies are NKOK, I think. Anyway they look right at home, where they will be ran and to a good guy. Anyone who will drive back home to get a couple cars so his buddies can try them out, deserves a little something. Just good karma. Jim
