What are you thinking Ninco

Postby Dangermouse » Fri Apr 01, 2016 6:14 pm

I am a big fan of Ninco cars - their classics are great fun to drive and their other lines are really good cars albeit they do need some fine tuning -but then that is part of the fun as well - IMO nothing finer than tuning a car and having it run smooth and quick as a result of your efforts.

Recently bought a couple of Ninco Lancia 037 rally cars and a Ford Escort rally car - they are some of the best Ninco cars I have bought out of the box they went really well - I thought that Ninco was finally getting it right - and then they announce this
http://www.slotcar-today.com/en/notices ... p-5292.php
For those who don't want to follow the link - thermoformed bodywork - painted lexan like body shells

Seriously what are they thinking? As a cheaper alternative to the high impact cars I can understand this as they would be a resilient as the high impact cars and don't look that much different but they didn't announce any other cars so as far as I can work out this will be it from Ninco no more cool rally cars - no more classics - no more RAID trucks or GT cars = ?

I understand they were losing customers etc - but I fail to see how this will gain them any new ones... me thinks someone at Ninco has been inhaling the voodoo juices - Xslot and now this - I wish they would concentrate on what they did well and work on reducing the cost of their cars - I am sure many of you agree with me if Ninco priced their cars similarly to Carrera we would all own a few more of them.....

cheers

This is April Fools Day. Hopefully that is the explanation.

Hopefully this body type will only be an option on some cars.

Vac form bodies do not appeal to me personally so I won't buy any.

Maybe Mr Ninco stumbled across the Slotworx V8's and figured it might be worth a try

No April joke

This is a report from the Jan Toy Fair

There is some hope for the original plastic ninco cars

"2015 was a year of reconciliation for Ninco, who had all of the their tooling, including the track moved back to Spain from China"

They have been doing some RC cars as well so perhaps this is a spin off from that - may work for 'home' sets but can't see too many collectors buying them

Very RC-like and completely not for me. I'm so disappointed in this news, as was announced at the show, that I'm not sure I'll ever buy another item with NINCO on the label. Guess I'll continue to love my old classics as this feels like the death-rattle of a company to me.

The Nincos I have, I love, but they are few and far between. The only plus I saw in the information provided was the move back from China to Europe. When Jules at Pioneer did the same thing, it took awhile for him to get going again. Hopefully what we are seeing is "gap filling" the market while they get things settled. Hopefully this won't drive the price of "used" classics out of sight!
