Parade of Slot cars

Postby BARC 1 » Mon Apr 04, 2016 12:58 pm

Well I am about to change gears and some of the slot car stuff is being put aside as I move to my summertime hobby. For those that don't know I was quite busy this quarter scratch building a bunch of my favorite cars in 1/43 scale. This has been a pleasurable learning experience as I progressed, and each build was slightly better then the previous attempt. In the end I have a chassis that is tuned, quick to build and runs pretty good considering it is the base for scale cars with interiors. I have found the right motor combo, and the right mix of brass plate to give me a good COG and a quick car.

Truing all four wheels has made a huge difference in drivablitiy and the use of urethane tires mean I have abandoned magnets completely in these cars and have found the traction others told me was there when you get the car right.

Here are some pictures of this years project cars. Thanks to all those who made comments and suggestions to improve my efforts. I will be slowing down, but rainy days will still present opportunities to build another one, so I am not finished yet.

I never could never lay my hands on a Chaparral 2C, and it is the one car that is on the list that never got done. If anyone has one who would like to trade or let me temporarily use it to cast a mold I would be grateful. I continue to seach ebay but all that seem to come up are March Model fully built ones costing over $200, and there is no way I am spending that much to get one.

If one does not show up, I guess I will take this up a level and try and build one from clay.. I have a 1/24 and 1/32 one to use as a guide, but have never tackled a scratchbuild that involved. My 350 Can Am started off from a P4 shell so that was easy compared to wheels up build of a pattern.
Cheers

Very nice and a little humbling, I hope to be hitting it hard near summers end myself, as all the projects which kept me busy the last couple years are starting to wrap up.

These are amazing! Are all of these your casts? Doo you sell copies? Or rent the moulds :-) do you cast the rims as well? Sorry too many question but I don't see this kind of work very often (definitely not in my workbench! O:-) ) what kind of chassis do you use?

I build my own chassis.

Yes these are all made from shells I cast from my molds.

I am not in business to sell shells, but will help out others if I have the shells and sitting around. Typically I will pull 5 or 6 at a time, and only use one, so that means I have extras laying around.

A PM to me requesting what I have is what would be required.

I do have one fellow waiting for 6, but I am in the middle of my digital conversion so patience is required.

Cheers
