Carrera Collectible?

Postby LAMing » Tue Apr 19, 2016 5:30 pm

So I have this "thing" for Carrera's '57 Chevy stock cars. At this point, I have at least one of each release. I also like their classic stock cars, and have several of those.

As I was cruising eBay the other night looking for Carrera (D132) stock cars... I saw some pretty silly (to me) prices for some of the previous runs, such as the '57 #26 car, etc.

Are these actually pulling in the prices being asked, or just wishful thinking on the part of the seller? If they have indeed become "retirement level investments" then I've blown my retirement in some of them as I've modified some of them and those are no longer "box stock/collectible"!!

Not everyone who shops on ebay is wrapped tight. I have seen some common cars for sky high prices.
Before I bid on ebay I shop most of the Hobby sellers. I have seen the #26 '57 Chevy for as low as $39.00. You just have to look hard.

I keep thinking I should write the seller a question, like, "Are you out of your flippin' mind?"

The classics are getting hard to find. The Chevelles go for a fortune as well. As long as demand is there...well...

Thanks all for your input.

Was thinking to pick up some more Carrera stock cars for modifying... but I think the current price points to do so isn't what I want to spend.

My limiting factor is that I am only doing Digital 132, so using custom resin bodies still requires a D132 chassis to go under it. I currently have more bodies than I have chassis for same. Was thinking to stock up on some D132 stock cars for use as chassis donors... but can't justify the cost to do so at the prices I'm seeing!

Ah well... of such is life.

Just received my #16 '57 Chevy stocker from the USPS today.

Wow, the printing/paint work is superb. The car looks even better in person than it does in the pictures! Can't wait for the next one that's due out sometime this year. It looks to be a real dandy.

Also likely going to start adding the new "Classic" stock car releases to the stable. The Carrera line of stock cars are just too nice to let them slip through my fingers.

Darn you Carrera!
