Competing with some old Carreras

Postby Ky.Slot Racer » Thu Apr 28, 2016 10:59 am

Our local club doesn't do any kind of real racing, so I thought I would pitch this idea out to them. A few that I`ve spoken with really seemed excited about it. I`m in the process of building 4 of these elderly Carrera cars with new drivetrains. they will all be powered the same but with a different build approach for each. All cars will remain on a specific lane for the events, and the drivers will rotate between lanes until they have all run all 4 cars. Laps totaled and recorded, then we`ll head to a different track, and repeat. This should be interesting with the cars being different, where each person will have to not only drive a different car, but in a different lane too. We`ll still need to iron out how long we want to run the series. I just thought this would bring a little something different for the guys, without having to go through the moneys involved, the long list of rules, and he had this, and he had that BS. Probably put up some prizes for everyone at the series end. Here are the first 3 cars completed.

What a great idea and effort.

Well done. These are jewels from the past.

I'm inspired!

I have one of those Bentleys that desparately needs a brass chassis.

Now, if I only had a dozen less projects in the queue and a bit more time.

Some day my Bentley will have a brass chassis and I will post pics of it.

Great work on those cars. I'll bet they go like stink with their Piranha motors.

Cheers,

Keith

Mark is an Old Master, like the Dutch Master's on the cigar boxes, like the legendary guys in Model Car Racing magazine in the 60s, all that. I saw a chassis he did that was a miniature of a 1:1 chassis, brass differential, transmission and engine with a slot car motor in it. Incredible. When I think I've done well on something, I am humbled by Mark. And he gave back to the hobby for years and years, at great expense. He was the first host of a multi-state gathering I ever heard of. You just can't do better than Mark. Drive a Ford.
