American Pickers slot show episode question?

Postby BRP32 » Sun May 15, 2016 10:40 am

Question regarding the American Pickers slot show episode?

Mike, frank and the gentleman that owned the collection was racing on what looked like a 3 lane 1/24 scale track? What brand of track was that or who made it? It looked like vintage scalextric track? Did scalextric produce a 3 lane 1/24 scale track?

Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Three lane 1/24 scale Scalextric. Pretty hard to find, especially in America. Among all the vintage collectors I know, a bunch since 1985, I only know of two other people with that track. Scalex made 4 1/24 cars, also and the Lotus 38 is a jewel and a really expensive collector car. They also did the Ferrari F1 which is also valuable, but not like the Lotus. One of the guys with a bunch of that track frequents this forum and a couple others, we may hear from him. He has the Lotus in his collection. He is a Lotus guy!

I haven't seen that episode of the show, but Strombecker made a 3 lane set I got for Christmas one year back in the 60's. I think it came with enough track for a tri-oval. I can't remember what cars came with it but it was the same lane spacing as their 1/32 sets and I had a few 1/32 scale Cox Ford GT's and a Monogram Porsche that got used most of the time.

Strombecker 3 lane was 1/32 scale and came as a figure 8. The Scalex is true 1/24 with 4 inch lane centers.

Thanks guys!

That is sweet!

I didn't realize scaley made a 3 lane 1/24 scale track.

I didn't realize they were that rare either?

That is an idea size track to have and race on!!!

Thanks for the info!

Hi Wayne! How is it going? That was a cool episode, and the three lane track would be great to have out again! Especially for people like me who can fix cars but can't cut a piece of wood straight to save a life!
