width of 1/24 Carrera cars

Carrera's version of the 1/24th Porsche 917 measures less than 2-15/16 inches, less than scale; the 1:1 917 measures at 1980mm or 78 inches which in 1/24 is 3.25 inches. Carrera's narrower body makes for a handling handicap at our club track. So I build 1/24th Porsche 917's either from a Fujimi kit or a B.R.M. body.

Am thinking about building a Ferrari 512S. But before I buy Carrera's version I would like to know what's the width of Carrera's 1/24th version of the Ferrari 512S. Anyone here know?

Here we go again.
The 917 has different trackwidths on the various versions.
The early car (our version) was much narrower. The one with the fins was widened considerably, google some frontview-pictures of both versions.

Googled pics prove nothing. Rather read from Porsche factory specs for the 1971 version which I've modeled using the B.R.M body which is wider and more correct than the Carrera's 1971 version. The Fujimi kit with its 3.25 inch body is also more accurate than Carrera's. Unfortunate because Carrera's 1/24th cars are otherwise so good looking.

the original 917 had a width of 1880mm, there was no remarkable change in width between this and the shortened 917K.
The width of the rear body increased remarkably for the finned version of 1971.

The documentation on the 917 is everything but conclusive or complete, just take a look at some pictures, where the rearwheel-archs were widened with a crowbar or something, to accommodate the wide rear tires.
