Made a mold box mock-up using cheap corrugated board. The General uses it a lot and works great. They use this material a lot for political signs and you can get used ones VERY cheap :)



Made sure to have a 1/2 inch mold wall all around. Once I had the size down, I placed the body down and hot glued it to the base. I used the "tape" method to fill the inside.



So now we wait until tomorrow to see if I did it right :)

So interesting, .....A friend of mine got out of the military back in the 90's and wanted to make rock climbing holds...so we actually cast some rocks with urethane then made the holds with a silica sand polyester resin......

On you're project you have to make a mold of the inside also right.?

Not very pretty but it worked.



I made a body from Alumilite (tan) and Smooth-On (white).

The photos don't show it, but I goofed a little. My silicone was not degassed enough and I have some "pimples" on the lower sides. Not very pretty, but I sanded the areas smooth and they will work well enough for around here. With some primer and a maybe a little putty, they could look nice enough.

So I learned a lot and made some mistakes of course, but pleased to have them turn out as well as they did for my first time.

I will try and make a new mold and this time make sure I degass properly. But for now these would work for those not afraid of some light bodywork :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of molding............"Work well enough for around here" is the highest standard I've ever been
able to achieve. (Just ask anybody that has one of my castings) :lol: They all make for GREAT race cars in my book....... CONGRATS!
