TGIF - Welcome 2017

Postby HomeRacingWorld » Fri Dec 30, 2016 8:11 am

Well it has been a wild and wooly last couple of weeks. Many of us have been very busy over the Holidays and old HRW is no exception.

As we get ready to welcome in 2017, many are looking back on the past year. I suppose that is important and some reflection time might make us appreciate what we have.

We had highs and lows.

New releases and new molds were on the low side. Some brands are no longer with us. Some will be missed, others perhaps not. I look back on brands like NINCO and SCX and just shake my head. Both were once leaders in our hobby and today both are all but gone.

We also lost some very dear friends that made sites like ours a better place to share our hobby. Their presence will be missed.

This next year will bring focus on those that are left, and THAT is where I will personally focus.

Image

Because regardless of our losses, new enthusiasts keep coming. Fresh eyes and enthusiasm for their new found hobby is with them. For old farts like myself, it's always great to see.

They say necessity is the mother of invention. With fewer and fewer new cars that many of us on this side of the pond find appealing, we have been quietly creating what we want.

Not so quiet any longer. I feel the people here do more to help scratchbuilding than anywhere else. From full on resin building to the art and science of brass chassis design. We have it on the good side because we have other grass roots companies making all the little parts we need to gear up our dreams.

All of this is why site like HRW is here and I assure you it will stay that way. As appealing as Facebook and other social networking sites are, they cannot hold a candle to a real site dedicated to a certain genre of interest.

The main HRW site was rebuilt from the ground up in November and it has allowed myself and other would-be contributors a better place to share our hobby. Easily connected to the social network juggernaughts and this has shared our very existence by leaps and bounds. Some have asked about certain changes and I did the best I could to answer them. Not to make lame excuses, but I am just one person. It takes time to build and create sites like these and there are only so many hours in the day :) But, it is done and I'll do my best to keep improving.

Our forum will be the same. A place to share our new cars, tracks, custom builds and tech tips. Any forum or site is only as good as the content inside. I rely on many of you to help achieve that content. From a simple answer to a question, to full out photo review or build.

I cannot thank those of you who take this time enough. Your selflessness is how we strengthen this hobby from within.

So I look forward to 2017 in many ways. Not only in the new toys but to our new members. It's the great PEOPLE that make this hobby the fun that it is.

I cant wait to get started on the new year! This past one has been a real pain for me. Health has got in the way of contributing anymore than an occasional comment here and there. All that will change, as my meds are working good now, and I can be a part of the group again! This is still the best slot sight on the net, and the ONLY one I visit and call home. Thanks for all you do Harry, it is appreciated by many.
I will be getting started on my build off in the next few days, so expect some weird stuff coming out of HRW South!Image

GREAT JOB Harry...........I must give this site credit for most of what I've done the last couple of years.
I thought I was alone in the hobby 'till I found HRW.
I didn't know anything about resin or casting or much of what was available in the marketplace until HRW.
So THANKS AGAIN HARRY & ALL THE MEMBERS!

With the holidays & this cold I've been fighting I haven't posted much lately, but I've got stuff on the bench
& in my head, so I'll be a part of the build thread soon.

Very well said Sir! 2016 has been one of major change in my family life, all for the better but a long road getting to this point. The efforts of my wife and I will pay off in 2017 and beyond. As for my slot car addiction, there is much work to do to get "back on track". A garage to empty and remodel will allow the space I need to build a new track that I miss so much. My original mdf oval was given away as part of our move to Florida. Plans for a new build are underway!

2017 will also be a new season for the DaVols Forum Cup Proxy Series, a NASCAR type proxy. 2016 was my first season as the series director, learned alot amid the almost year long effort to settle into our new home. I have plans to make the DaVols Cup even more exciting to participate in and a big part of the plan is to develop a presence here on HRW, if you guys will have us!? It is my understanding that years ago the DaVols Cup was partly represented on HRW. I would like to bring it back in 2017 to help grow the series and share with all interested racers. So, stay tuned!

I agree on all points but one...

"I cannot thank those of you who take this time enough. Your selfishness is how we strengthen this hobby from within."

Should be selflessness, right?

I got a phone call in the instant I was reaching for the "submit" button, and screwed it up. Its karma, right?

I agree with everything said so far this is the best site on the web period as far as I'm concerned. The content is excellent but It's the people that put home in HRW. Wishing everyone a very happy and prosperous new year :text-thankyouyellow:

The only site I visit. I check it at least once a day. Yea, 2016 was a rough one, but hobby-wise I've been trying a lot of new stuff, learned a lot from other HRW members, and have had a good time. There have been several proxies I followed during the year that were outside my usual build interest that I plan to take a crack at like maybe that cool looking drag racing event going on now. So anyway, thanks to you all from Tiny Alice Racing. Happy New Year!

Val...

Looking forward to this year for sure. Not much on my radar to purchase other than the Javelin and some vintage F1. As for building - I've not done much lately and want to do more, but am getting lazy in my old age LOL.

Really looking forward to the T/A proxy this year too.

HRW is my home forum. I'm lurking most of the time I'm near a PC or on my phone.

Since the beginning of fall, my work on slot car projects around here came to a standstill. I was preparing for my youngest daughters wedding in September and since then I have had a series of distractions to keep me away from this hobby. Backpacking and my G scale model train club were the culprits. Not that I am complaining mind you. Anyway I hope to get back to the shop it after the new year. I have a half built wood/ SSD hybrid track to finish. It is almost ready to for paint and of laying braid. But I will still have four lane changers to build. I hope that I can get her done by June because when this school year is over my teacher wife is retiring. She wants to do some traveling in celebration and I can't say that I blame her. But that will keep me away from that new track again for several more months when my other daughter plans to get married....................
