Detailed Ferrari P4 running chassis

In an effort to get a little more power I have discovered that if I twin up 2 Minebea S cans I end up with 16000 RPM and 100gms/cm of torque. I call this the BARC Twincan and used it on this Ferrari P4 chassis. The motors which sits astride the rear axle in a sidewinder configuration, takes up little room and provides a motor with a very low COG. This particular chassis is quicker around my track than a tuned Scalextrics chassis with a 130 21000 RPM motor. I am guessing the very low COG on the GCC, and a straight that is only 10 ft long on my home layout means the higher RPM scalextrics motor never gets a chance to stretch its legs to show off that extra RPM.

This arrangement leaves me lots of room for details, so I went the little extra on this P4 Chassis. I find I enjoy running it around the track without the body as it is fun to see the Ferrari V12 in action.

V12 is a casting I pulled off of an old Scalextrics P4. I modified it, added the headers , air intakes and ignition wires. I have since added the spare tire, and just about got the body ready for some photos

That looks really nice! And a double motored version fits the spirit of the 330 P3/P4.

This is an old Scalextric, model P16 I think they called it. It is made of a real durable plastic

That really is a beautiful piece of work. I hope people realize just how much time and effort that level of detail represents when they look at it... and it all has to hold together in a roll, unlike a static model. I also suspect there's stuff in there that no one will ever discover as well. Hats off to you! Always enjoy your posts.

Thanks again. I wondered if it was worth resurrecting the old Scalextrics P4 to spend so much time on it. Those old slot cars are made out of some very durable plastic. Not sure what it is, but the stuff is tough. In the end I am happy with it and the Twincan idea puts these cars at the same performance level as stock Scalextrics and Carrera cars, on my track arrangement anyway.

Lowering the body from stock with the new chassis, the car looks the part. I never got any calipers out to scale it out, but it is what it is, and looks OK to me
